GL550 On Order

I ordered my first MB in December. Dealer tells me it should be in mid to late March. My error, I didn't do a lot of research. I have been reading posts here and am getting nervous about delayed delivery and brake issues. I am hoping for a great experience.

A gaggle of MB's
I would suggest you get the dealer's PO# for your GL - and ask for the scheduled production date - which at this point will show as a "decade" - meaning each month is set into 3 decades.

With PO# - then later, about 30 days out, factgory will assign a specific day/date for scheduled production.

The current "delays" encountered in January - are the 1st/only blip that has come up since the begining production new gen August 2012 - so as long as your order has a "real PO" - you should worry less.

Keep the beat !

I suspect you WILL have a great experience, the GL is a fantastic vehicle ( my 3rd)…..remember: in forums such as this one ( and for all makes of vehicles with similar forums ) you WILL find that anyone that DOES have a complaint will indeed post it. There are many hundreds of viewers/owners who have NO complaints or issues. They far outnumber those who have had significant issues. Those of us in the forum considered to be "regulars" tend to be "intense" ….some expecting more, some having great knowledge depth….all being highly motivated to comment on our likes and dislikes. I have participated in many automobile forums…..it is always the same pattern. In short….if this is your first MB, you will most likely be very impressed by the quality of the vehicle and if your dealer is customer oriented and accommodating ( mine is ) then the experience will be even that much more enjoyable! Best wishes….!

Hi Fabb
We did get PO# when we ordered our Gl 350 on jan 7 th and like you mentioned on Jan 13 th we got production date for feb 16th and our order was turned red which means no changes allowed (We were hoping to change from polar white to diamond white) is that typical for MB to lock down order a month before scheduled production? Our dealer believes there is a good possibility they will pull our production early, not sure if that is possible given all the parts shortages we are hearing.
Any thoughts?
Thanks

Lockdown 4-5 weeks in advance of scheduled decade production - is "normal" - and lock down stretches out a bit sooner/longer going into Nov production.

January production has been a disappointment for a good number of units/owners, and there are 2nd decade Jan production units that have been "reassigned" to 1st decade February.

Personally I could reasonable expect 1st/2nd decade February orders "could" slip - at this moment January slippage on select units has been 2-3 weeks so far - but assumption those added 1st decade February units, carried over from Jan, will start/complete on time.

My GL is closer to reality. I got a call & email from my dealer today with my VIN number and a completion date of 4-16-14. Seems odd that the completion date is a Sunday. Although, maybe they run the plant 7 day a week. Dealer told me that it is a very real possibility that I will be driving the GL550 by the end of the month.......fingers crossed!!!!!!

If you have a VIN then it's in production now with a completion date sometime in this decade. It's odd for a VIN to be assigned with a completion date that is more than a month away. Last I heard they were getting better with parts shortage so you may have your GL this month.

I ordered a GL450 a month ago. The dealer had a build slot available for a new order. They told me it was for a March/April build. Early last week I made a change to the order and the dealer told me that my order is in "danger" status and that no further changes are going to be allowed. Think it will go into production soon? I have a PO# for my order.

This might be the longest week in my life. Dealer called yesterday and told me that my GL550 is completed and should be at the dealership by the end of this week via truck transport.

GL550 was supposed to arrive today. I got a call from my dealer, saying there at transportation delays and GL won't be in until Saturday at the earliest. Bad timing, as I will be out of town all next week for work. The wait continues..........
