Changing 450 front bumper to 550 bumper
I'm looking at getting a GL 450 but really like the look of the 550 front bumper better. has anyone changed out the bumper? If so anything I need to know about? Would it be as easy as one coming off and one going on?
Thanks,
J

I was interested in this also, however, I think it's a little more complicated that just swapping. From the looks of it, the fenders on the 550 are also a little wider that flows into the bumper. I don't know if the fenders just have cladding, or they are completely different.

according to this website, no modification is needed.

This would look dumb **if** you don't do the whole thing and here's the reason why. All cars with the AMG bumpers have the fender flares. The front and rear bumpers both have little areas that stick out where it would flow to the fender flares. So if you just do a front bumper it would look very weird how it starts to flow to the fender flare shape without having it.
The rear bumper is the same way. It has the little sections that stick out for the rear flares. So you have to do the whole thing just so there's no awkward angles.

I paid $2900 and got the whole body AMG kit as well as the 21 inch rims and 10 inch wide tires which look spectacular but are usless in winter. It sucks that in the U.S you cant get it. 5000 euros for the body kit alone is really steep IMO +3600 euros for rims.... thats almost $12,000 U.S...!

I think the rear is ugly. I would do the front, and obviously the front and rear flares. It's funny that someone would mention something so obvious. Since no one has seen the kit unpainted, the rear bumper flares could be part of it as well. We don't know if the rear bumper has the flares already molded into it.

Yeah you might be right. Was hoping the kit would have that part too and the body shop would just mold it to the rear. Any good body shop should be able to finish the flare though.
