Real world GL550 mpg
I was wondering what everyone was getting on the road in terms of gas efficiency in their 550 GLs. I understand the subjectivity of my question, but I would still appreciate your results.
Thank you
Thank you

I have a 2010 with 111K miles and get 19 - 20 on highway depending on speed . . . close to 20 with cruise set to about 73 and about 18.5 at with cruise at 78 mph on recent trip from northern NJ to adirondacks in upstate NY.
Get around 16 MPG in 13 mile daily commute mostly back roads with few full stops and little traffic (one traffic light).
I generally do not accelerate hard. Driving style will have a big impact on MPG. I have seen MPG as low as 12 or so on trips with aggressive driving.

Fwiw, i'm only getting 14-16 mph on the 5 liter V8 from R500, and can get up to 20mpg on long drives on hwy. Regardless of engine improvements, it's tough to get much better gas mileage when dealing w/ such a big car/big weight.

GL550 MPG
Based on on-board trip computer info, I've experienced as high as 21 MPG on long drives with all flat/open highway, and as low as 14 MPG when entirely city drives with short, low MPH trips.

I'm getting about the same as Max4Speed. If it's one of the days I'm going to the office around rush hour, take another 1 more mpg off those numbers due to more coasting and re-accelerating due to idiot commuters. But those full throttle runs once in a while sure make it worth it!!

i'm in mid 15's over 10,000 miles. however on a recent 5-hour, 300 mi road trip from So Cal to central coast CA i got almost 21 mostly 75-80mph where it was wide open, but there was some traffic in LA and Santa Barbara that slowed us down.

My 2008 gL550 would avg 16 if you didn't reset the meter for a 1000 miles..driving in Brooklyn and then 200 miles of highway driving every weekend...the AMG never gets more than 14 for the same style...but will kill you in the city.... Like 7! Ouch.

I have a 2014 GL550 x166 -- as they say, it will pass just about anything except a gas station ... : )
Really, you're not buying the 550 for hypermiler driving.
When I drive it for a week, I'll get 18 or close to 20 mpg.
My wife will get maybe 14, not for insane speeds or acceleration, just an indelicate foot and the tendency to use the engine.
I really enjoy the oomph of the 550, but I wouldn't be surprised if my next GL is a bluetec again. I don't see the merit in the V6 turbo since it doesn't bring the same mpg as the bluetec, but it could be a better all-rounder compromise without having to deal with diesel fuel, additive and the turbo lag.
