2013 GL550 Trade / private sale value?

Long time lurker on the forums.

I am working on selling/trading a 2013 GL550 Black extior with Auburn Brown interior and 18,500 miles. Car has panorama sunroof and rear entertainment and is in really quite good condition.

I have been offered basically what seems like a bad deal on a trade and am wondering what you guys have seen for trades or when selling your cars. There basically aren't any of these on autotrader so its hard to figure out what they are worth.

Blue book had the trade at $72.6k and private party $73.5k but dealer came in under that.

If it helps I am located in Tampa, FL. Thanks for helping guys!

According to Edmunds for Trade-in/Private party is $67k and 70k.

Which I think is a very steep drop for a one yr old model =/

I would go with the edmunds #'s as a benchmark... "BlueBook" is inflated by it's nature

I agree. KBB really is more used as an insurance appraising tool. Don't forget the dealer has to turn around and sell your vehicle, as well, either to a wholesaler or another retail customer. Chances are your vehicle needs tires, brakes, and some other items to pass certification standards. This all has to be calculated into the appraisal of a vehicle. May I ask what they are offering you on a trade?

How much did you pay for it?

Unfortunately a new car is consistently a bad investment.

thanks guys!

I have gotten offers of in between $66 and $71k.

The car has been serviced recently and is basically good to go for a dealer. Brakes and tires all in good condition.

I had a buddy look at the wholesale auctions and recent 2013 GL550's have gone for in between $68k and $78k so it is a maddeningly large range.

It's a range - since added options give a big spread at MSRP..

Again, my suggestion is to use edmunds.com to set benchmark for trade-in and private party sale..

If you want a GL350 this calendar year... clock is ticking on nationwide sellout..

Auction results vary so much due to drastic differences in MSRP, and color. The same equipped GL in black or white will go for thousands more at an auction than any other color. No offense to those who have the other colors!

I'd find a used car dealership that specializes in high end vehicles to sell to. Here in SoCal, there a few who pay top dollar for high end/luxury vehicles. They always beat CarMax and independent auto buying services. I sold two of my cars this way and I got very close to KBB. Like your GL550, both of my cars were less than 2 years old. Another option is to find a buyer in Canada, as cars up there are much higher priced than here is U.S.
Good luck!
