GL350 buying advice needed
Hello
I am a first time MB buyer (first time buying luxury car).
I found a color combo in the GL 350 that i like and its a new 2014. The price right now is rivaling a '15 new GL 350.
GL350BTC $63,000
890 Lunar Blue Metallic $720
105 Almond Beige MB-Tex
DSL Ultralow-sulfur fuel required. Biodiesel
P01 P01 Package: Driver's Side & Interior Au $3,680
R55 19" Twin 5-spoke wheel
319 319 Lighting Package: Bi-Xenon Headlamps $1,390
413 Panorama Sunroof $1,090
443 Heated Steering Wheel $250
550 Trailer Hitch $575
581 581 3-Zone Automatic Climate Control: 3- $1,450
734 Eucalyptus Wood Trim
843 Power EASY-ENTRY $400
846 Illuminated Running Boards $670
866 Pre-Wiring for Rear Seat Entertainment $170
889 KEYLESS-GO® $650
993 993 Lane Tracking Package: Blind Spot A $875
996 996 Parking Assist Package: PARKTRONIC w $1,290
SUBTOTAL $76,210
DESTINATION & DELIVERY $925
TOTAL (Dealer price) $77,135
How can I negotiate the price down? KBB says depreciation is 12-17k per year.

This car is loaded...so this is a good thing.
The color of the car is not popular among exporters, so that is a bad thing. This is one of the reasons why it's still not sold. You can start with the offer like $3-$5K under invoice...see what they say... I just bought the ordered car with almost the same MSRP, but black on black and it's 2015 for $1K under invoice ( 7% off MSRP) minus my fleet discount.
Good Luck.

If KBB thinks 12-17 per year - I'd like to ask them to find me a car with that price and I would buy it without any negotiation

just found the invoice price to be 58590. So with all of the options at invoice price, it is 71779. How much should I negotiate under invoice? It is winter event right now, but different dealers have different incentives.

We all want to pay as less as possible. Attached is Manheim report for similar used car. I would offer them $65K ....in worse case they will say No After that NO - it's your money, your decision.
Good Luck.

You don't mention where you are, which is important.
If you read this forum you will find that GL350's in most of the US are hard to find and negotiation is hard and inconsistent. Get the 1 year depreciation out of your head, it's a new, untitled car, not a 1 year old 2014. You might get a better deal on this 2014 on the lot versus ordering. Aegroup is in NY which in my experience has been some of the better deals. He's also purchased before, which I think is also beneficial. You can see he got below invoice.
If they told you they are selling at MSRP, as your post seemed to infer, you have a ways to go.

I have heard that dealers are more eager to sell off their lot and this car will be 2 model years old soon.

There is some "other story" here - since that "new" 2014 GL350 doesn't show "new" in Netstar inventory - to me it sounds like it was a executive loaner driven for a year under dealer plates - so better get the "story" straight..

That is really concerning that a dealership would do that. The mileage says "New."
I had asked another dealership to search the east coast for a car in this combo and they were not able to find it. When i questioned this dealership about it, they said that the car wasn't listed for "trade." Not sure what this means.

Hate to hijack the thread. On a 2015 Bluetech with a sticker of 77,650 what type of deal should I expect to get? I'm looking for the price I should aim for pre fleet. Right now I'm offered 8% below sticker. If invoice is at 6% below, can I work any more?
#18
No problem! If a 2015 is the same price as the 2014, shouldn't the 2014 price go down? I'm not clear on why two consecutive model years can cost the same.
#19
Yes, you should pay less for the 2014. Let's say you buy the 2014 and your neighbor buys a 2015 with the same MSRP. In 5 years if you both go to sell your GL's at the same time with the same mileage, it (without looking this up) will cost you probably $2,000-$4,000 more to drive the 2014 than it will cost him to drive the 2015 in depreciation. A vehicle is depreciating as time goes by before it is even manufactured during it's model year. You had better get a good discount if you buy the 2014...

If they dont want to negotiate the selling price - I would buy 2015 ( if money allow). Otherwise - if you still want to save - look at 2014 CPO cars. You can get up to 100K miles warranty for 5 years and a car will be in most cases less than 10K-15K miles. I think you can get it for about $63K-$65K with warranty.
This is the one even with unlimited mileage warranty : http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...89219866&Log=0

i ordered my 2015 GL350 - MSRP was 77K - paid 1K over invoice - I had to play 3 dealerships against each to get that price - luckily i tracked the gent i bought my last GL from and that was the lowest he was allowed to go - overall end of day i am stoked to have ours - took 3 months to get truck - and love it - Good luck!!!

if it helps you out with a cost comparison...I took deliver on a 2014 GL350 Bluetec, new, just delivery mileage, not a demo on 11/9/2014 black/black MSRP is 73+k. vehicle selling price before taxes etc was 64,500 with the prepaid service for 10,20 & 30k included. Sold by a northern NJ dealer. Do know if that was a good deal or not, I was satisfied and it was what I wanted and am enjoying the vehicle. Did the entire purchase on the phone, never saw the car until I took delivery. Dealer did everything he promised and so did I.

If so, anyone know why there was such a drastic drop in value within only 4 months?

That's interesting, but understandable, due to falling gas prices, the value of my GL63 is actually going up!
Perhaps we could debate why anyone would buy a Diesel GL in the US given the current gas price levels.
Everyone should remember that the Diesel engine in these things are way way way more complicated than their petrol (gas) brothers.
I would imagine that used car prices in the US for the bluetec are on a big tumble right now?
