New 2014 GL450 left in stock. Whats a good deal?

I went to pick up my mercedes at my local dealer from service. I saw they have one 2014 GL450 in stock. It's February and the 2015 GL's have been out since September. I'm shocked they still have one in inventory. It only has 65 miles on the odometer and never been titled. It's brand new. It has the V8 engine that was replaced by the V6 in the 2015 GL's; It has many nice options like leather, preferred package 1, blind spot, bi-xenon, easy entry and lane tracking, harman kardon and parktronic. The dealer is offering 8K off the sticker. The sticker price is 76,005. I'm wondering everyones thoughts on pricing. Is 8 thousand off a good deal on a 2014 or are people buying the 2015's getting the same amount off if not more? What's a good discount on a left over 2014? Also wondering what peoples thoughts are on the V8 vs V6 engine change. Is the 2014 V8 worth it over the new V6. I'm trying to decide if its worth buying the 2014 or a 2015 just because of the engine and the amount off the sticker compared to a 2015. Thanks everyone!

That seams like a reasonable deal, not a great deal. The east coast seems to be most aggressive on markdowns.

In regards to V8 vs V6, it's debatable. Many of us on this forum are 'old school' and we like the pure horsepower of the V8 turbo. These are big cars and the big engine feels right. I must counter the argument though and say most people who own the V6 don't have any issues. I personally would want the V8, guess that means I'm old school.

Thanks Jim, I agree on the discount. I don't feel its a great discount. I've read people getting 10% to 12% discounts off MRSP on the 2015's. I was hoping for more off the sticker price than what people are getting on the 2015 models. I'm trying to figure out what would be a great discount to counter with and hold to for a 2014. The GL has been on the lot this long I would think there be a need to want to sell it more than a 2015. I've driven the 2015 V6 and it was fine. Seemed to have plenty of power but I've never driven the v8 so wonder how much better it is. I've seen many post that they would not purchase a V6 GL450 and would only purchase the V8. So I don't want to miss out on a chance to have one of the few V8 gl450. I'm also wondering about resale value and reliability between the two engines.

I think the dealer can better. I just recently bought a CPO 2014 GL450, just because I wanted the V-8. I feel the V-8 does not have to work as hard to generate its power while I felt the V-6 was straining to move such a heavy vehicle. This is just my opinion. I suggest driving both, figure out what you like best then work to get your best deal.

I guess my advice is position yourself as willing to purchase the 2014, even though there is 1 year of depreciation difference versus buying a 2015. But you need to see more movement from their current position on the 2014. Tell them you are thinking they are offering a discount you would get on a 2015, and you need better for it to work out. Then pick your minimum, perhaps in the 12% range and see what happens.

Ford Lightning, GL350 and a couple of outbacks
people are getting 12% off the 2015s, I would go higher than that or negotiate the extended warranty or a service plan as an additional discount.

I would like to echo fabbrisd1's comments. I have been on this board for about 5 years now and I have seen people time and again brag about the deals they got but not disclose to readers that they are on their third GL in as many years and have other MB products parked in their driveways. The reality is, some buyers are capable of getting incredible deals but they are paying the salaries of half the employees at the dealership with their lease payments and service fees. People should keep this in mind when they read about some of the deals people are getting. Not everyone is going to get the same kind of deal and not every car has the same (undesirable in some cases) options/colors.

Thanks Jim. The dealership is now offering me $8,000 off on a 2015 Mercedes GL350. I have always wanted the diesel but was willing to settle for the GL450 because it was the last 2014. I wanted to ask you how your GL350 has been. Any major issues? How's it been pretty reliable? Do you find maintenance more expensive than the Gas versions? How does it drive? I'm really looking for a SUV that will last longer than the mercedes 4 year /50 thousand mile warranty without major issues. Wondering if the Diesel is more reliable than the GL450. I figured I'd ask some of the GL350 owners their personal experiences with their GL's to help me make my decision. Also wondering everyone's thoughts on the $8,000 discount on the 2015 the dealer is offering me. Thanks for any information you have to offer

I have had 2 GL's. My first was a 2007 GL450 (1st year adopter). I put over 100,000 miles on it. I traded it for a 2013 GL350 (another 1st year adopter). I have about 34,000 miles on it now. The only issue I've had with the 350 is one of the soft close doors stopped. It was fixed and no problems.

I did purchase an extended warranty. We'll see if that was a wise decision or not as the years progress. I had one on my 2007 and when the COMAND went out, it was enough to pay for it.

Maintenance on my GL350 to date hasn't been an issue. I did buy a pre-paid maintenance package at the 2nd service, so haven't had any expenses. The 350 is different than the 450, it's a torque versus horsepower difference. I've been happy with it, I'm not a pedal pusher and I like getting >600 miles per tank and higher mpg.

I think the engine itself will not be a problem no matter what you choose. I've been on these forums for a long time and you just don't see failures. They are sophisticated vehicles, so they aren't maintenance free, but you just need to realize there's a lot of function. The V6 is new, we'll see how it performs long term. I suspect it will be another rugged MB workhorse.
