Taking a peek at the photos earlier in this thread of the partially camouflaged GLSs and the new GLE and it's not hard to envision the final "look", IMHO.

Was at my dealer today and he showed me the NetStar ordering window. 2015 orders are closed. 2016 GL options seemed identical to 2015. No mention of GLS. It just said GL550W4. Not sure what that means, but just FYI.

If the refreshed GLS is shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September but not available to order until December/January, it may be MB will sell it as an early MY17 as some documents posted here have shown. It just wouldn't make sense to me to start selling MY16 GL's and then release the refreshed model and sell it as a MY16. So I'm thinking it will be an early MY17 release. Of course this is just speculation on my part. But hey, isn't that what makes this thread fun?

W4 could mean 4.0L Biturbo?? I believe this has been announced as the GL500 in other markets. It is a detuned version of the engine going in the AMG GT. I'll be okay with it as long as they have the power turned way up on it. It's supposedly a very responsive engine.
2016 Mercedes-Benz GLS class will remain similar in terms of powertrain options. Apart from new 3.0L twin-turbo V6 with around 330 hp, nothing else will be changed, at least not initially. Core of the engine lineup will remain the same as 240-horsepower turbo diesel V6 will remain the most fuel-efficient option. Moreover, new GLS class will keep 4.7L twin-turbo V8 and 5.5L AMG twin-turbo V8 engines as well, capable of raising 429 and 550 horses respectively. Of course, all-wheel drive will remain the standard option with all models and 7-speed automatic transmission shouldn’t be changed as well.

Notice the changes to the head-until. The buttons are all new. And notice the leather with stitching at the bottom of the dash. Nice touch!
The actual display window doesn't look larger. In fact, it looks smaller. Has anyone seen this screen in the GLE yet? What does the actual graphics look like? Is the command software different?

The new display is an 8" screen. Definitely large than the current display. Its just the angle of the photos I used. My son has the new C400 with this screen and it looks much large than the current GL screen which is maybe 5.5". Plus you get the latest COMMAND software.
Apple CarPlay better be supported by the time the GLS hits the road or MB will lose some credibility with me on their promise to support it in 2015.
Trying to help - please understand that model-name/changever is a branding issue for this next model year changeover - and is NOT linked to facelift or redesign.
So the release of the DOG and no mention of the GLS rules out the release of the GLS facelift or redesign later this year as Stephen Cannon, president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA said? Is it normal for MB to do a facelift or redesign within a model year?

Based on the DOG it appears MB plans to manufacture the current GL design as a MY16. If they do unveil the GLS in September as has been mentioned in several published articles, will it be a MY16 or MY17? I'm think it may end up being sold as an early MY17. Just a guess though.

I honestly don't think even Mercedes know for sure when the facelifed version will be available for purchase. They may well announce it sometime in the fall, but as I've said before, announcing something on a stage somewhere is very different from being able to purchase it at a dealer.
Seems Mercedes is doing the right thing, and releasing the GLE first, and use the feedback/experience from the GLE to make sure the GL facelift will be absolutely perfect when it comes out. If BMW is coming out with an X7 soon, and Audi is planning a Q7 facelift, you can be sure Mercedes will take care and make the facelifted GLS an absolute killer. No reason to rush - better take time and make it 100% perfect.
Here are three things that is not chatter but certainty:
1) a refreshed GLS branded GL will hit the dealer showrooms in the fall
2) the refreshed GLS will have an upgraded dash just like that in the refreshed GLE
3) the refreshed GLS will have updated head and tail lights and minor changes to the front and rear facia.
Don't ask me why I am so certain - my eyes will get gorged out. I'll come back to comment on this in a few weeks when all 3 points have become public knowledge.
tata.
Why don't we go to the bay, eat some hay, make things out of clay?

I told ya, but nobody wanted to listen.
I'm also in for a new GLS but only the facelift, and the dealer here is spot on.
When he tells me that the order bank opens July 16, I'll believe him.
Because, you know guys, over here MB has so many customers, they have to provide proper info. And the guys are selling any mercs like water over here. He has no reason to push me into a decision. Because he knows, he will sell it to me anyway, earlier or later.
I know everybody want to provide and gain a lot info, but there is a lot chatter going on. Even the German sites don't know a thing yet, when they know, everybody will know.
