How many full size luggage can fit in the GL?

For all the GL owners here, I'd like to ask can the GL hold 5 full size luggages (30x20x12 inches) with the third row down? I'm planning on renting one for a week long vacation with friends in Europe. Thanks!

If stacked vertically, 6 30 x 20 x 12 bags should fit in the trunk. It's close to 48"wide, and is about 50 " deep. You will have limited view out of the rear window with this load.

Thanks for the help! That feels a little reassuring. We'll just try to limit our large luggage to 4 with 4 carry ons. Hopefully we'll be able to stack it in a way where I can still have a good view out the rear window.

Sorry to say, but I think you're best off with a minivan. Even if you can get that luggage to fit (you're assuming that no one packs their suitcase "fat") you'll have no room for anything else - gifts you buy, etc.

I'd agree with the mini van comment, my son has a Honda Odyssey, and it holds a lot. I used to drive a full sized Ford van that had even more room. But, the GL does pretty well. If you need extra space occasionally in your GL, I'd recommend a Thule roof bag--they are watertight and will hold quite a bit. Just do not use Thule straps to tie them down, get a couple of ratcheting strap clamps at Lowes or Home Depot and use these. Thule roof bags are around $100.

I'll agree with you about the Denali having more room--it is a bigger vehicle. But as an ex 2004 Tahoe owner, I got tired of having an engine with the best mileage at 18 and the worst at 14, plus numerous odd problems caused by GM being cheap on warranty repairs. To date, the MB gets about 60-70% better fuel mileage than the Tahoe, (gas Tahoe vs diesel MB) and repairs have been zip. GM blew it when they discontinued work on their light diesel--it was a casualty of their bankruptcy. To me, the trade off of smaller size for a higher mileage, more reliable vehicle has been worth it.

A gaggle of MB's
Retning a GL350 in Europe can be fun - if it was me with 3 other people I would choose to rent a Mercedes Vito - I can really zip around urban Euro in the Vito - I do Cannes FF and Austrian gran Prix with the Vito.. love it..
