Will GLS release lower resale on GLs?

I'm considering buying a 2013 GL450 and was wondering what thoughts are on waiting another 6 months as there may be many more GLs on the market with people getting a new GLS. Has anyone seen this with older model changeouts etc. I know it would make sense, but is it really worth waiting as I wouldnt buy a new one anyway...

I would wait if you'd rather have new. Any auto purchase is a bad investment so don't get too hung up on resale unless you have a habit of flipping cars.

A gaggle of MB's
The purpose of a mid-cycle "refresh"/"upgrade" is to add features - and maintain the competitiveness of the model series.

Frankly - those that have leased and enjoy/love their will choose to move to the GLS when their lease comes up - for those owner's who purchased their GL's - a freshened model does give them more incentive to move forward but frankly most who are enjoying/love now will stick by and large to their original ownership-life/plan.

Your are looking at a '13 - and with New Year's behind us - if that is a righteous rig - have at it !

I'm also expecting the GLS pricing to increase compared to the GL. The added standard features aren't going to be free.

Just as most people don't notice the difference between the ML and the GLE, most won't notice the difference between the GL and GLS.

thanks all, ended up with a 2013 GL450 last night. 25K miles, CPO for 2.5 years left (unlimited mileage now). Completely loaded except for a couple options, MSRP in 2013 was 86K. Wife is very happy

2014 GL450
I had wondered the same thing, but I decided the fact that the used cars will continue to age and shed value while I wait is probably the most significant factor, not a new generation coming out in the show rooms. I didn't want to extend the perpetual waiting game I was playing any more, so I am picking up a CPO '14 next week.

Congrats on your decision, obviously I think it's a good one.

1st, congrats to the OP on the new rig. I beg to differ w/ this statement. There is a difference and you do notice it. True, my ML was a diesel and had different options from my gas GLE now. At the core they are the same vehicle, but it's easy to tell where the changes were made. This was made even more apparent when the dealer took the GLE back for a night and we had a '15 ML for a loaner. Nothing in a negative sense, but you will notice a difference from the GL to the GLS.

Thanks all. I wanted to also add that the '13 I got has manufactures warranty for another 1.5 yrs then the CPO kicks in for another year. So I am covered until mid-2018. They did try to sell me on the extended CPO until 2020 (so two more years) but it was an additional $4K. Just seemed too much for 2 years. I know it's unlimited mileage now but I won't put more then 10K a year on it anyway as that is what we put on the SUV it's replacing. I did some searching for this on the site too and many seemed to think it was somewhat high. Of course if you need it then you regret it

I should have stated that my comment was based primarily on cosmetics. Thanks for the correction.

The ML ran for what, 8 years? That was a significant transition to the GLE. The 2016 GL and mid-life refresh to the 2017 GLS will not be much different.

As far as there being more GLs available with the GLS launch, they won't be making any more GLs.

The last W166 ML only ran four model years 2012-2015 (ML name has been around since '99). Similar run to the GL, 2013-2016, also four model years. The refresh to both are about the same. It's one thing now coming into a GLE or GLS or approaching the end of a lease. But like you said, not enough to justify coming out of an ML or GL to get into one of the new ones.

Congrats on the new ride to the OP. I just picked up my 2013 550 CPO today as well and am excited to be a member of the forums. I was in the same situation and was deciding wether or not to wait. Decided that the longer I wait, the value was just going to drop even more. I fell in the love with the car and just decided to go for it!

Same here, we found one my wife loved and figured we would not buy a new 2017 anyway so mind as well get what we liked and could afford now. It was CPO as well.
