Need advice on buying used 2013 GL550 from non MB dealer

Hello all,

Im looking to purchase a used 2013 gl550 (driver assistance and active curve options) with 25k miles from a non-mercedes dealer. It has a clean car fax and is priced $65k. I need your advice/help with:

1. Is this priced right? Looking at Autotrader I think it is, but still would like your thoughts?
2. How should I verify the options that are listed are installed on the vehicle? Are there indicators in the dash or nav console that will is these options? Im not sure if dealer has the original MSRP window slip.
3. Should I take it to a Mercedes dealer to get it checked?
4. Can i purchase ELW from Mercedes if I buy this vehicle?

Anything else I should be watching out for?

thank you for any advice,
John

A gaggle of MB's
1) Yes - you need to know the options/features - and I would say 90%+ of 2013 GL550's will have the window sticker folded up in the Owner's Manual binder - or - any dealer trying to sell a $65K Mercedes "should" be able to tell you

2) With the options list - THEN use edmunds.com to check their 3rd party impartial value - it's ALL in the options and history - frankly "most" non-certified GL550's - that don't have extensive options - you should be at/slightly under $60K.

3) Pre-purchase inspection by a MB dealer or expereinced indie is ALWAYS money well spent - even with a "solid" rig - you have pending expense on tires/brakes/dealer-service-tomake-up-to-date

4) "Clean" car fax - "usally" means no accident recorded on the CarFax - that's all - has the rig "jumped" between states - has it "jumped" thru a auction - "what" is the record for 10K/20K service etc - the devel is in the details that are recorded - or by what is NOT recorded

Have fun - keep the beat !

Thank you very much for quick and valuable suggestion.

Yes the rig moved from one state to another and been brought at auction by current dealer. How does it impact the value of the rig or cause any potential impact. I'm asking because I have no clue, and can your input to negotiate with the dealer.

Also any thoughts whether or not I can purchase ELW from Mercedes after I buy the rig?

Just ran the search on dealer auction site and I see the Auction value for similar age and mileage car is around $52-$56 it all depends on color and etc so I am assuming you could get a nice discount if you bargain it right. I would expect to negotiate at least 4K+
Also see how long the car is on the dealers lot the more it is on the more you got upper hand.

And as Fab mentioned get it checked even if it is Carfax certified etc.

Thanks

thank you much Dreamzalone, really appreciate your input and a great point to help negotiate. I will surely get it checked by a dealer.

Also just checked with a local MB dealer about ELW and he said this vehicle will not qualify due to its history (as it was sold at auction and purchased by 3rd party vendor All the more reason to get it checked out.

My honest advise would be is if you are researching so much on price then you are matured enough to budget your expenses so I would recommend put more money and get a CPO with extended warranty if you plan on keeping this vehicle for 3-4 years because 2013 model will be out of warranty in next few months if 2012 build or max a year. And you will be hunting or investing more money on some Bull**** 3rd party warranty and will spend $4-6K easily another added expenses and they dont cover Sturt and all Gizmos in GL. So I would say just go and get a CPO if you plan on keeping the car for another 2-3 years. Also buy a extended warranty on CPO from Mercedes only.
I know its hard to let go something you like but dont get emotionally attached to this vehicle unless you dont care about money...

CAR/Women/Bus/Train/House is a thing which gone does come back again so this is not the last and first...

Thanks

Very well said and quite honestly you highlighted a fear of mine about this vehicle running out to warranty in 9-10months and then Im on my own. I have been burnt by 3rd party extended auto warranties and was not going to do it again. Im not attached to this vehicle, but want to get something in low 60s price range with low mileage. May be I will keep looking and keep my fingers crossed. Im hopefully I will find the right price even with CPO but the miles is what Im worried about.

You should be able to get a RIG with 30-40K miles but mind it you got unlimited mileage warranty with CPO and you got covered for 3 years so who cares drive it like crazy...

The only thing is you wont be able to find much of GL550 with Active Curve option but I wouldnt care about it much unless I am on a Track doing 8-100MPH.
I usually go with New or CPO looking for the right truck across US to get a better deal just fly down check it out and I buy it....

FYI :- Very easy to advise on others but hard to do it yourself so I know
