Difference between Lane Assist vs Active Lane Assist
Hi Everyone,
Newbie here. Is the difference below?
Lane Assist will ONLY warn you by making signals, while Active Lane Assist will also pull your car back if you continue to drift after the warning signals?
There was a thread that was discussing this and some members actually turned the Active one off as it was doing too much to a point that it might cause more problem than just a warning.

Same thing with Blind Spot or Active Blind Spot that the Active Blind one will guide you back while the Blind one will only give a warning?
Thanks!

I love active lane assist, it really does work and when I was driving from San Francisco to British Columbia over the holidays, I grew a little tired and some lanes were sketchy and it triggered and brought me back into the lane on more than a few occasions. Maybe I'm an outlier - but absolutely love all the safety features on my rig.

It does work. The problem where I live is that we have lots of narrow two-lane roads and often lots of bicyclists. I turned it off the day I attempted to drive into the other lane to pass a bicyclist and the system steered me back toward the cyclist. We were both very lucky that day. I realize that I could have prevented it by turning on my turn signal, but that's just not part of typical everyday driving.
I have turned it back on for highway driving.

Active Lane Keeping assist gives you a warning first if you are drifting off the lane by the vibrating steering wheel. If no response, the brakes, depending on which side you are drifting of, will be applied.
I don't like it personally because it wears of the brakes faster.

I love it and would not like to drive without it. But as it was mentioned about pulling over for a bike, that also includes motorcycles. I didn't know about using the signal so I will try it next time.

I opted to look for something without the active feature. I've never had an issue with tiredness while driving, and we have a lot of narrow roads around here with lane markings in varying states of fading. There are also a fair number of bikers and runners. I knew there would be too many instances where I'd be fighting the active system, which I feel was the right choice for me based on the number of nuisance steering wheel buzzes I get.

Regarding using the turn-signals to prevent having to fight the system: I found that it became second nature after awhile. Eventually it became so automatic that I didn't think about it.
That said, the performance of the 2017 GLS' steering-based system (already available on the new C & GLE models) is vastly superior than the "oh ****" sort of correction that the older brake-based system can accomplish.
