I am starting to look at my next SUV upgrade for my wife who currently drives '07 GL 450. Here in So. Cal we have a lot of hills to climb so on the GL450 we have seen mileage ranging from 13 to 14 MPG in the city. I would consider it 'good' given the size of the engine and weight of the car. I have been debating whether to go with another GL 450 or move up to GL 550 as I absolutely love the looks of it. But I am naturally a bit concerned about MPG hearing stories that on the 550 it goes down to 10-11 MPG.
Are there GL550 owners on this forum who live and drive in So. Cal? Would you mind sharing your real-life MPG?
Thank you.
Alex

All depends on how and where you drive, and also weather plays a role too. I usually get 15-16 MPG in city when I drove sober, and on highways I top 18-19 and at times got 20 MPG also better than my previous 07 GL450 and this GL 550 impressive power and mileage. People at times sitting in my truck is surprised so see this kinda mileage.Originally Posted by MB500

Have had a string of V8 cars/SUVs and I'd say the mileage is very good considering how much power this thing has. I bought the GL550 new and the first 1,500 miles she drank a lot of gas!! Especially around town. But once broken in, she's been great. If you're not used to guzzlers, it might shock you though.

WE have just under 25k miles on 2014 GL550.
The avg since "start" is 14.9.
For daily driving without concern for mileage, about 13
On highway utilizing Histrionic +, usually get just over 20.
The Histrionic makes a 2 mph difference.
Great car-no issues at all.
Hit a median at 30mph and destroyed 2 alloys, but the alignment was not impacted.
Drive in CT.

I have had mine for a week and its eating me out of house and home! That being said, I am deeply in love with my GL550! It has even taken my attention away from the S550!
