The metal running board plate only has 3 removable rubber grips holding the metal plate to the plastic running board housing: one on the front, one in the middle and one on the rear. The mounting rubber grips have a plastic post that goes through the slot shaped opening with the hole in the middle, as the picture posted earlier shows. They are held in by a small metal disc which clips onto the plastic post attached to these 3 mounting rubber grips.
All of the other rubber grips are not replaceable....they are linked together by a continuous rubber ribbon strip underneath the step plate.
The metal plate on my running board actually popped off after some road debris hit the front end of the running board, and I had to replace it. Watched a youtube video on how to remove the running board, then figured out how to put the the new metal plate and clips on. Took less than 15 minutes.

Can I do this without removing the step board?
Thanks
