Hitch dilema 2013 GL450. Need help!

I just bought a 2013 GL450 in Canada ( but it's actually a US car)
Car has a 7500lbw towing capacity apparently. However for a 2013 all of the hitch manufacturers only make one hitch with 3500lb capacity. However for a 2014 GL450 they have a 7500 lb one. They are trying to tell me the body style changed in 2014 not 2013. I obviously disagreed.

So then I called Mercedes and asked them for hitch part number for both a 2013 and a 2014. It was the same part number.

My question is: regardless of what the hitch manufacturer says. Am I safe buying a hitch for a 2013 that the manufacturer says it's only for 14 and up?
Or is there really a difference back there between a 2013 and 2014 GL450?

If Mercedes has the same part number for both, can't see how there is?

When I gave Mercedes my vin they confirmed it was same part number as 2014.
Is it possible they made both platforms in 2013?

A gaggle of MB's
Look - if you are just looking to install the hitch/only - then I would suggest Curt mfg.

For 2013 GL450 - MB dealer "should" have reference for "hitch kit incl wiring harness" meaning hitch + wiring together - however please understand factory wiring harness is very time intensive.

Hitch

Not worried about wiring. Trying to nail down the correct hitch as I need to tow 5000 lbs and curt shows only a 3500lb hitch for 2013 but a 7500lb hitch for 2014. They are telling me body styles are dif. Benz sells a 7500 lb hitch for crazy
Money and it's same part number for both years. So curious why the hitch from curt for a 2014 wouldn't fit on a 2013.

I want to buy a curt hitch for $250 not dealer for $1500 and that's where the dilema is.

Even though it is much more expensive, I would suggest you ONLY get the OEM hitch. It has 2 large support arms that get bolted to the hitch at one end, and go into a recess in unibody at the other end, and get bolted to unibody. Super stout hitch unibody connection. Its probably the best hitch you can find in any unibody vehicle. My understanding is that MB is using the same hitch since 2011. Also, with OEM tow package, you will get the trailer stability control as well.

Have you spoken with curt directly? I had a similar issue at the time they weren't showing any options for the 2015 GL450 and their tech line quickly straightened it out.

I spoke with curt. They were adamant 2013 was different.
Told them that makes no sense as body style came out in 2012.
Then I called Mercedes gave them my 2013 vin and a 2014 vin and they came up with the exact Mercedes part number. I ended up ordering the Curt hitch listed for a 2014 on Amazon. Will report back if it fits, with the part #.

Just want to report that the Curt 13190 does indeed fit a 2013 GL450 regardless of what the catalogues or Curt tells you. They have their information wrong. Attached is a pic of it installed on a 2013 GL450 although they say it doesnt fit on a 2013. Everything lines up as it should
