GL550 Off road tire fitment
I am thinking of put on my 2010 gl550. Time for new sets of tires, so wondering for mud tires.
Just concerned a bit about road noise.
I'd upgraded on my land cruiser 80series...Look great.
I gave up on the new wheel tire combo for now. I only drive the GL a few thousand miles per year at the moment so I just couldn’t justify it, but the boy racer in me needed something, so I opted for spacers. 17.5mm all around with appropriate bolts. It’s subtle but it looks much better to me, what can I say. Hopefully others will post up some pics of some more options in the future. Sorry I didn’t get before pics.....you all have one, you know what they look like.
i really wish we could get a more aggressive tread in a 21”....I love these wheels, don’t love our tire options.
Thanks in advance.

If you still have air suspension, you could swap out the linkage. They sell kits on ebay for lowering GL(S)'s, you would just need to do the opposite. Someone on this forum has done it. Do a search and you'll find it. Here's a description of what they do to lower them straight from the ebay description.
From the factory, the Mercedes Benz GLS comes equipped with an air ride suspension. This system utilizes four sensors (one at each corner) to control the ride height of the vehicle. This is accomplished by the use of a small linkage which connects the sensor to the suspension. As the car is raised or lowered, the linkage moves the sensor up or down sending a signal to the computer telling it how high the car is. By replacing the fixed linkage with one of adjustable design, such as ours, you can change the output of the sensor making the computer believe that the car is higher than it actually is. The computer will then respond by lowering the vehicle. The simplicity of our setup is that it maintains all the functionality of the factory system. The ride height button works exactly the same as it did before swapping the links.

The tech at Town Fair Tire on the other hand did the physical measurements. He couldn't guarantee that it wouldn't rub at full articulation but he tested the tires at full lock and knew that they wouldn't rub (which was accurate)

"I believe the ET is 50 for a 10" wheel. Quick cheat, go to Tirerack.com and see what ET they selling for your GL and do a search online for a better deal/selection of wheels and tires. 285 would fit without issues. 305/40/22 fits without issues too"
I'm having difficulty getting accurate information regarding changing over my wheel set-up. I've got a 2015 GL350 (Australian Spec.) AMG package - so it's got the bigger brakes but not the 'really' big calibers. Currently it's got 21" wheels with the 295/40ZR-21's.
I know I can squeeze 275/55R20's in there.
However, I'm after the tallest sidewall I can get. For sand driving (airing down in hot sand)
My question is: Can I go with 19x9.5" rims or do I have to stick with 20x9.5". If I go 19" rims I get a slightly taller sidewall. What I'm trying to find out is, what will fit over the caliper and then the tallest tyre that will fit in the Wheel well.

Tallest sidewall possible to air-down for soft hot sand work.
Anyone got an answer to my question regarding 19's fitting over the caliper on the front?
