GL350 Bluetec Tune Done

My '13 GL350 got a clogged adblue nozzle, which took out the NOX sensor, and it had a code for an ad blue temp sensor. MB's quote was over $5,000 and they said to expect the $2,500 adblue heater in the future.

For $1,600, I had th DPF hollowed and the ECU tuned to eliminate all of the emissions functions and codes. Performance is improved, combined gas mileage is up by about 6 MPG, it looks completely stock, and I never have to worry about another emissions issue on this truck again.

If you need more info, PM me.

At how many miles did your adblue and NOX fail?

The adblue heater failed at 110K miles on my 164.

My nozzle clogged, took out the NOX sensor, and the tank temp sensor failed at 59k.

You can't emulate 4 failed parts in the adblue system. Emulators are for O2 sensors in gas engines.

Search anywhere (Google, this board, ebay, amazon, etc...) with the acronym and word "DEF emulator". Easy....

No more adblue; that's a plus. But you gain no exhaust flow, pick up no power, no mileage, and spend almost as much money.

I got rid of my '12 ML350BTC at 40k miles. Can't remember the mileage when it went but I too had the adblue heater fail. Thankfully it was still under warranty at the time.

There are cheaper tunes out there too that use the fuel rail pressure to increase HP/TQ. Typically around $500.

I did not use these guys, but they may be worth a shot for those not close to a capable Sprinter shop:

"We have tunes tested and available for 350 V6 Bluetec. Expected gains from tuning are +50-70Hp & +90-100Tq.

More information and dynograph can be found here: http://oetuning.com/blog/2016-sprint...e-dyno-tested/

Features of the tune include:

- Ignition & Fuel Mass adjustment
- Torque limits and Boost targets are raised
- Increased economy
- Speed limiter removal
- Improved performance, throttle response and drivability
- Rpm and shifting limits can also be increased

The price for tuning is $595 (ECU send in only). The ecu must be removed and sent in for modification, no OBD2 flash loaders are available for this platform. We also offer DPF/DEF/EGR Delete are available (for off-road and race use only). Each delete costs $100 per delete.

Purchase also comes with one free reflash should the dealership write over your tuned settings. Your tune will be saved in our database and is always 100% reversible. We have not ever had an issue with MB dealers and warranty.

If you would like any more information on the OE Tuning tune for 350 V6 Bluetec, please don't hesitate to email or call the shop at 818-574-5075 or sales@oetuning.com "

Any updates on what you ended up doing to resolve your issue?

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s for the same reason I’m looking to get one. Aside from being one of the better looking SUV’s on the market, it’s got a ton of space and gets really good gas mileage from the diesel given how big it is. It doesn’t hurt that it’s quite luxurious either.

The fuel efficiency is ruined by the poor reliability and more costly maintenance schedule of the diesel. Just get a 2015 or later GL450 if you want good mileage and better dependability. They get pretty great mileage if you don't drive like an idiot.
