I believe 5/32 is within allowable specs for CPO. If they would have replaced the tires, then the cost of the vehicle likely would have been at least $1200 higher.

A gaggle of MB's
Yes - MB minimum spec is 5/32nds - meaning at 5/32nds and above it is dealer optional choice (and dealer internal charge for the tires added to their internal cost of the vehicle) to replace those tires only with MB spec tires - non-MB spec tires not allowed as CPO. Under 5/32nds measured by the dealer - then dealer is required to replace tires (with dealer internal charge for the tires added to their internal cost of the vehicle) in order for Mercedes to issues the CPO warranty.

That said - if you are the one measuring 5/32nds now - or are you measuring under 5/32nds now - depending on how many short miles you have driven - if it was me I would cut a deal with the dealer to replace the rear tires at their cost - which you pay - you can pull from Tire Rack as comp tire price - get install and alignment for free - and go forward.

you keep talking about only one set of tires, how good are the other pair? Its to my understanding that having a different tread depth between front and rear can ruin your awd. I dont know what the percentage should be but having new tires on the back and 60% good tires in the front I think is bad. The tolerance should be between like 10-15%

Bald tires on 1 axle and full treads on the other won't do one iota of harm to the 4matic.

Hi all.. Im about to pull the trigger on a 2016 CPO S class.. i noticed in the close up pictures that the tires were different, goodyear and pzero. the tread is fine, but I heard some where that the all the tires had to be the same brand? Is this true? should I be concerned? should I ask them to swap out to match?

GLC300 (GL350-gone)
You should ask for everything you like negotiating your S class or any car buy. Tires should match, that's sloppy indifference for CPO seller of a top level luxury car like an S, though par for course on Camry. Makes one wonder what else is just done but not top notch. Know that CPO is not a regulated thing, each store can do as little or as much and call it CPO until caught, so maybe you need to inspect other stuff like brakes, too. Finally, get all the fluids and filters renewed before pick up, all the dry and the fuel filters plus trans, brake and any other obscure hydraulic S class tonic I'm not aware of, not just oil. Wipers, too. Start fresh. Alignment, too? Up to you, not dealer, to define your standards. Costs dealer a little in material, a little labor, but retail value to you in service bay later is thousands. Then, be sure you read up here on prepay service timing (particularly if starting all fresh like I suggest) and on CPO extension from a guy like discounting F&I director at Tafel MB.
