A new cord fixed the connectivity issue. Only problem I have now is the backup camera not working now. I don’t have the 360 camera, just the regular backup camera.

Yeah, I'll try to find the config file. Otherwise your contact at unichip should have a handy guide too. Otherwise, how are you liking it?

Ran it up the A pillar and just have it sort of hanging next to the SOS button. I bought a replacement mic on amazon with a sticky mount. If you tuck the wire, it's pretty hidden. Nobody ever looks up there.

yeah I was thinking of buying and extension and somehow hiding it by that SOS box if I can figure out how to open it - your CarPlay still working well?

Fellas,
Sounds like Nate is almost completely there with getting it to work without glitches. I can see the finish line. I on the other hand bought a new vehicle and am willing to let me UniChip CarPlay box go at a discount. I never completely installed the new one in my GL, so it's currently sitting in it's original box.

Thx!
I still have my GL... However, the Expedition is truly nicer on the inside and more modern in the tech arena... I get it... the Ford is 5 years newer, but I am blown away by this suv. I love my GL, but I think I might love the Expo more.

My wife drives our GL and yes it is nice, but I’ll take my Volvo over hers all day! Enjoy that rig!

Sorry, was gone for the weekend in California. There are two things you need to check - #1 Hold the command wheel down (click towards the center armrest) and check that you have the right settings for 360 camera, you can try all the camera iterations. Secondly, click the wheel to the left and hold, and make sure you have the latest march or newer firmware. I have yet to install the may firmware. I'll shoot some shots of what to look for.

If anyone wants the CarPlay box let me know... Otherwise, I'm sending it back in the next day or two. Discounted price compared to direct from UniChip.

Having been a German Car owner (BMW, Audi, Benz, VW) for 20+ years ... with many family and friends owning non-German cars ... I have always found German cars to be behind by a few years from their Asian and American competitors, a great deal from the interior refinement (like simple cargo space and extra cup holders in SUVs) to available and even standard technologies ... until recently from 2017 onwards Audi has stepped up to the plate ... my youngest brother got on the German train (from Acura) and bought his first one, a 2017 Audi Quattro 4 and he's in heaven ... how it is that my GL450 low beams are halogens and main break lights are filament bulbs escapes me to this day ...

Dave, you are correct. My GL being tuned blows the doors off the Expedition. But the Expedition can be tuned as well. However, it will never be as fast as the GL. Navigator, nah... I struggled mentally to pay $80k+ for a Ford, let alone paying in the mid $90k's for a Lincoln. I had a Navigator prior to my GL and wan't blown away in the difference between that and a Ford. So I my opinion, the cost difference between the two doesn't make sense.

Update: our backup camera is now working after UniChip sent me a software update; I bought a mic extension and hid the mic up by the SOS button area (much less noticeable); and CarPlay works every time now. I haven’t used all functions (as it is my wife’s GL) like calling, but I have used SIRI (see my video) and that works great. At this point I would definitely recommend this and their support is great!! It’s a great upgrade to the crappy Comand system.

I don’t know about the one advertised on AliExpress in the post above yours, but I’m using the Joyeauto Wireless CarPlay unit in both my GL and E. The install in X166 is pretty simple as it’s all plug-and-play (zero splicing) with the provided harness. Compared to every other auto I’ve owned, it amazingly simple to remove the radio in the X166 for install. Remove the trim bezel around the radio and pop open the HVAC panel and you have access to everything.
The only real challenge with any of these units is reinstalling the OEM radio with the new wiring harness. There’s just not a lot of room behind the radio for the harness so it takes some patient trial and error to get everything situated.
There’s plenty of room behind the HVAC controls for the box itself.
Once installed, the OEM backup camera still works normally and one can easily toggle between the CarPlay screen and the original MB Comand.
