Joyeauto working great for me. Purchased direct from their site arrived from Hk in three days. I cut out some of the plastic dividing the climate controls and head unit to make installation easier.

Hi, it is not related but have question regarding my 2013 GL 450 NTG 4.5. In main menu after “System” there is only clock function no consumption and seat adjustment. This features optional package or it has in every car?
thanks

FWIW, I've ordered the Road Trip box to try it out as I like that it uses the built-in MB mic compared to the Joyeauto unit.

Not offhand, but all these boxes are installed the same way and hook into the main harness of the Comand unit. The only tools required on the X166 are an auto trim removal kit and a ratchet with a T20 socket. I made a thread for installing a CarPlay box in a W212 (E-Class) (here) but one of the videos is actually a X166. The Comand units are the same across the line so I’d take a look at that thread and ignore all the vehicle specific parts. The Road Top box should be much easier to install as there are fewer connections and you don’t need to wire a mic.
If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, it would be a 1 out of 10 difficulty job for any competent auto audio shop. It’s amazing how simple the center dash of the X166 comes apart.

I've messaged them but they are not really responsive so i'm wondering if anyone could share their user manual ., or have any ideas why the display is off. Its an NTG 4.7
Thanks

FWIW, here's the English manual for the identical unit from indiwork: http://indiwork.co.kr/archive/manual...NTG4.5_ENG.pdf

I don't use SXM but others use the SXM app to listen while remaining in CarPlay which would be a more elegant solution at the expense of cell data usage.

Hi! Sorry to jump on this old thread, but I'm just about to install the Road Trip box in my w166. Question for you.... how do you hook up the AUX cable? Do you need to run it through the center console to the center storage box where the MMI connector is? Thanks for any light you can share!

IMHO, it's a PITA taking part the center console because you can do the whole X166 install by only removing two screws on the MB Comand unit.
Instead, if you go into the Engineering Menu in Comand (see the 2nd half of this post) you can enable AUX in Comand and call it done. (There is actually a wired AUX connection to the Comand head unit integrated into the RoadTop wiring harness.)

I installed a carsara wireless carplay box last year and its been working great. Only downside is getting audio for nav to play through the speakers. I was too lazy to run wires to ami and figure all that out so everything works fine with bluetooth. Sometimes theres a bit of a lag if youre not listening to music via bluetooth and youll have to remember to switch your phone to bluetooth when you pick up calls instead of carplay but minor inconveniences. Wireless carplay works great though just jumping in the car and its magically connected with carplay.

I have a 15 gl350 so we should have the same infotainment system. If you message the Carsara people, they will link you to the one to buy if you’re not sure. There’s some YouTube videos on how to install it and it’s pretty easy diy. One thing it didn’t mention tho is the way to tuck the box in so that the wires fit behind the climate control panel. It fits nicely sideways with the rf antenna tucked into the passenger side tunnel hump. That orientation didn’t really click initially so most of my install time was trying different configurations.

I ended up with the road top version from amazon and I get the black screen, in aux but nothing works. I played with the dip switches while waiting for a replay from china. Unfortunately I also have a hazard light malfunction showing on the screen as well. Hoping to get these folks on the whatsup app here shortly.

just installed roadtop version when I press the steering wheel "talk" button both carplay and stock mercedes voice control are both listening. So the carplay works but then the mercedes voice control starts explaining it doesn't understand my command.
is there a way to deactivate the mercedes voice control or is the roadtop box supposed to do this?

Yes!
You can do this in the Engineering Menu of Comand.

thanks for quick response, looks like that will do the trick.
When streaming pandora seems you cannot skip tracks unless pandora is on the screen, if you have pandora in the background and waze is on screen can;t find a way to skip tracks

I finally installed a CarPlay box, I have a 15 GL NTG 4.7 H/K system w/ RES…went with the Road-trip box from Amazon. Big thanks to all on this forum for all the detailed info regarding this topic. After activating AUX in the engineering menu, I was still unable to get any audio but finally resolved the issue after connecting the ground wires from new harness together. Installed a firestick in the CarPlay box during install as the roadtrip box has a HDMI port. Happy to report that the firestick seems to interact well with the roadtrip box using Wifi through my phone via mobile hot spot. Old command system continues to work as it previously did with the RES. Attached is info of the roadtrip box version purchased through Amazon.
