So Cadetdrivr appears to be correct.
And just to be clear, both my vehicles are NTG 4.7, and I enabled AUX in both,so there still is plenty of confusion.

I'm gonna assume that many of these online re-sellers have not actually installed their product in a MB.

I have placed an order with the company Carsara MT. This one: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000...718e4c4dn7Z9tf

I have prepared my W166 by activating the AUX via the engineering menu. I will update once I receive everything. Carsara MT has been great so far with communication, answering all of my questions promptly.

For those interested in the new box: there’s another company who sells what appears to be the the same device. Their website and manual have some more detail, including pin outs and details on firmware updates, that may be useful.

Yes, that's a great find!

The User Interface and Settings as described in the manual are IDENTICAL to the unit I received from Road Top. I'd presume the units are the same.

Now the question is... do you think they'll all use the same firmware updates? That would be neat... let's pray they do!

Did find this post that included some details about firmware compatibility between similar devices for bimmers. It says that the firmwares used to be compatible but are in some cases starting to become incompaitble (post #3)

Intersting.

Note that the BMW unit being discussed has slightly different hardware with 2 LVDS ports on it compared to the units we have been discussing. I don't know if the hardware itself is specific to a brand or if our MB units are simply a later version?

For anyone interested, got a message on WhatsApp from someone claiming that they used to be with Joyeauto but are now with a new company. NOT promoting them one way or another. There site looks a little better than the Joyeauto site but the have no firmware updates loaded yet. Either way here’s their site. http://www.cheerdriving.com/news_com...spx?FId=n2:2:2

Theoretically? Yes.

Realistically, no.

As you know there is NOT a HDMI port on the Joyeauto unit. You could, in theory, get a HDMI-to-Composite(RCA) adapter and input the video signal via one of the aftermarket camera inputs. You could also need a splitter to add audio to the AUX input. And that's assuming that you can find an adapter that does not give HDMI HDCP errors.

Assuming you do all of that, then you need to figure out a way to always keep the camera input "live." I'm assuming that could be done, but then it would entail LOTS of messing around every time you wanted to switch between Comand/CarPlay/Fire Stick

You would probably be better off upgrading to one of the next-gen CarPlay units that have a HDMI input.

Ahh, OK. I see you have the NTG5 unit.

It might work? Give it a try and let us know the results. HDMI is HDMI so it theory it should work, unless you still end up with a HDCP error.

Using "Siri" button on steering wheel on next-gen unit without interference from Mercedes Voice Command

I've been playing more with the Road Top unit and realized that I could press the "voice" button on the steering wheel to bring up Siri when using CarPlay. The problem is this button also activates the built-in Mercedes Voice Command and they interfere with each other.

The solution is simple. Enter the engineering menu (see post #2) and deactivate SDS/TTS (item #21 in the 7.7 HU Parameter menu). FWIW, in Mercedes marketing lingo SDS/TTS means "Speech Dialog System (SDS) including Text-to-Speech (TTS)"

Now the button still works and ONLY activates Siri.

Hi all,
silent lurker since a few months, when I bought a JoyeAuto Module following the advice on this forum.
Sadly for me it just has too many quirks and bugs that I can't find a solution for, maybe somebody can help ?
- Calls are a nightmare, as the jump to the module's bluetooth / break off without any notice. I tried deleting the phone in the bluetooth settings, but it comes back every time I hook the phone up again.
- Each time I get in reverse, the screen switches to the original NTG screen
- There are small (compression?) artifacts all over the place
- "OK Google" detection is really slow and works 1 out of 3 times...

Did someone manage to find a solution for these ?
I would like to buy a roadtop off of amazon, but apparently the connection isn't automatic each time you connect the phone, which seems super counterintuitive... Can somebody confirm / deny this ?

I just need something that will play music / show maps / let me place and have calls without a hassle...

Thanks for this wonderful post. I'm about to 'inherit' my dads '12 and think this would be an excellent project to tackle. Which clip removal tool do you use/recommend? I just want to make sure I have everything lined up.

I've been out of the MB world since my W210 and about 12 years ago. He has a 12 with Command and the HK7 and factory rear view camera, this seems appropriate.

EDIT: Clicked on your PDF, saw the hooks, got em on amazon for $11. thanks

Have you contacted Joyeauto? I had all sorts of issues last August when I installed mine. They were able to solve and walk me through the settings.

Hello, I had the Road Top Unit Installed and I'm experiencing an issue where the left steering wheel directional arrows control the CarPlay functionality but it also navigates thought the small display on the dash.

I'm looking for a way to disable the Left Steering Wheel Directional buttons CarPlay functionality?

Thank you

I don't know if there is a way to do that as those buttons control the center display (as you discovered) and I did not even know they did anything for CarPlay until you mentioned it.

You are best left to ignore them and use the center Comand knob for everything.

Hello,

Thank you for the comment, I do ignore them but when I'm using the left steering wheel controls for the Car Dash it changes items on CarPlay.

I sent an email to Road Top support and will report back to the group.

Thank you!
