Angry 2014 GL350 Problems over the years (BEWARE)

Thank goodness, I purchased the 7yr/100k Mile warranty.
Have had the car 4.5 years, 64k miles. So major issues to consider if you were ever to consider getting a used model (better have an extended warranty which covers emissions!) I just had another major episode with CEL (ADBlue heater/pump, SCR replacement, NOx sensor x 2 replaced).

See below for major issues. ALSO, it eats up tires like crazy. Can barely get 20k miles on each set of tires. Currently on Michelin Premier LTX and all four replaced under warranty at Costco for early wear
=================================================
360 Degree camera software 19969 miles

Steering wheel column repair, exhaust back pressure sensor 35721

Active curve system hydraulic leak, new Pump 45212

Steering wheel column repair 56000

Exhaust pressure sensor, Yaw Rate sensor 60065

Adblue Pump/Heater replacement, New SCR/ new NOX sensor x 2 63369 (this was a huge service and very expensive, luckily all under extended warranty - likely about a $7K repair (Adblue tank 1400, Nox 1400, SCR 4000)

I have 2.5 years and 36k miles left on warranty. Likely will get rid of car at that point. Its sad, because with active curve it handles great, the diamond white paint still looks amazing, solid as a tank, diesel engine MPG and torque fantastic.

What was the issue with the steering column? Ours was replaced just prior to ownership.

2015 GL350
I just had the exact same thing done to my 350 at 52K as well as the dreaded timing replacement due to cold startup chain rattle. Parts alone on the exhaust were the same price as the warranty. Dealer was awesome about the repairs all covered under ELW. Thank God I bought the 7/100 from Jeff @ Tafel at 49K. If you are on the fence and have a 350 my advice is to pull the trigger for peace of mind. One bad thing goes wrong and you are in the green.

No issues with my 13/GL350

Other than an engine replace at 78k under CPO warrany due to a bad repair on chain tensioner by a MB dealer I’m am at 122k now with no other issues or repairs under my ownership since purchase at 48k. I to run Michelin Premier LTX and currently have 44k on tires and can probably make it another 10k with no problem. Previous owner had ad blue tank heater repaired and minor items under warranty but nowhere the repairs I have read over the years on site site relative to GL350’s.
I run 90% highway, every trip 200-400+ miles, this is a great highway vehicle. I do pull a heavy boat on short trips all summer and have never driven a vehicle which pulls a trailer so smooth.
i would love to keep this vehicle once my ELW expires next year but after reading all the negativity over the years in this forum I may to have to look at moving on as I’m afraid of the repair costs going forward. I wish these vehicles could make 500k like the old days.

It was apparent early on that the OM642 engine had serious flaws. I reported this very early on the 164 forum and got flamed and on the 166 forum and got the same treatment. Some have had good luck but many have not. Engine failure is no joke. With all the owners reporting timing chain issues and excessive oil consumption due to faulty oil seals and other costly issues, I would not recommend the OM642 in the GL to anyone. MB is not currently selling in the US and probably never will.

I originally ordered a 320 GL back in 2007 but it did not arrive on time so I had to move into a 450. The 450 has been super reliable and cheap to operate. Of course, this is the NA V8 so it does not apply but, with that said, I believe the new bi-turbo V8 will be just as reliable.

The new bi-turbo V8 is an awesome engine but it'll be well north of $100k to buy new.

GL350 Bluetec and GLS580
I put over 20k on my Pirelli's last year and have probably 3/4 left of treadwear.

I believe the NOx sensors were replaced under the original warranty last year when the add blue countdown started out of the blue.

I expect the timing chain to be next followed by the replacement of the add blue tank.

The other items you mentioned aren't specific to Bluetecs.
