RedLine 0W-40 Oil

Hi Folks,

I am not sure if anyone is using after market Oils in their Benz such as AmsOil\LiquiMoly\RedLine. My warranty expired last month, the car is still under ELW though until 2021.
I am debatting hard this time to put REDLINE 0W-40 in my car, I already put REDLINE 5W-40 in my 2017 Audi A8 L 4.0. And that oil does make difference, I could see a slight performace improvement and tapit\engine sound has lowered drastically. these are good to have things, but the major reason for Redline is the viscosity index and being Group V oil which is true true Synthetic it will protect the engine from wear.
What you guys think about Redline please let me know, and I been a loyal customer for Mobil 1 and I am still but that Group III base stock it uses is just not convincing me any more to purchase Mobil 1.

Thanks

Dreams, does the Red Line product meet any OE specs?

If you seek to use a boutique oil, why not something like LM? They're fully compliant. If you don't care about that, you can essentially use any oil.

  • Suitable for VW/Audi 500.00/502.00/ 503.01/505.00, BMW LL-01, water-cooled Porsche A40 and Mercedes-Benz 229.3/229.5 applications
  • Used in Dodge Viper and many later Chryslers (MS-10725)
  • Better flow at extremely cold temperatures compared to 5W40 and 10W40

I always recommend and use Amsoil. Read the data from defined laboratory tests. It's pretty tough to beat Amsoil. Redline is dead last in many categories.

Here's a study on 5W-30 synthetic. Not exactly what you're looking for, but it will be close I think. I know this study is conducted by Amsoil, but when you are running a defined ASTM test it doesn't really matter who does it.

Dreams, my point is that Red Line doesn't appear on the lists from the manufacturers: VAG, MBz, etc.

Red Line makes good products, I have some in my basement. I guess if you're out of warranty, less of an issue.

@PTCBenz I have seen this numbers, but all these numbers only come from AmsOil it never came from other sources. They do their test for themselves. The only issue I have with Amsoil is their base stock which they dont reveal and mostly the base stock they use is Group 3 or Group 4 at the max, and when they can reveal all ATSM\NOACK tests whats their to hide about Base stock. If I want Group 3 or Group 4 I can always try Mobil or Liqui Moly the approved oils. And 5W-30 I believe shouldn't even be compared with 0W-40 those 2 are way different oil, because as soon as you talk about 0W-40 the base stock recipe changes drastically its more like a Signature oil for any brand company.
Anyway I know there are die hard fans of Amsoil and I also use them in my other Japanese car but for German I feel only comfortable with Mobil. Redline I just started using so not sure how it would come along will advise you on that as my Audi A8 already has it.
For Benz I am debating should I go with RedLine 0W-40 or not.

11W204 Car is out of warranty but still under ELW Warranty, there is 5W40 oil approved from MB (See below link) but thats Hydrocracked Group 3 base oil called Professional Series Oil. I would prefer Mobil over that. I believe if Redline I will only try 0W-40.

Liqulymolly is the best. Far from aftermarket.

Oem certification and everything.

I used the liqui molly 5w40 in the w163 and 14 audi q5 and vw gli. All three run amazing.

In the x164 I bought castrol edge 0w40 European formula on sale (only reason why) and it is so much better than the 8 previous dealership oil changes that use mobil 1. Really the mobil 1 sucked. It always made the engine whine at cold temps and you could tell the car was suffering from inadequate oil formula. I felt so sad for the car hence I stopped using the dealership for oil even though still under aftermarket warranty

What LiquiMoly you use? Probably Leichtlauf High Tech SAE 5W-40 If it is then its same Group 3 made for US markets only, because in Germany you cant sell this oil as Synthetic because US is only country which allows ****y oil base to be considered as Synthetic.....
Anyway That oil is good as well because the additives they put is at par. As you mentioned Cold Cranking on Mobil 1 is tooo loud. And it hurts me when I heard the loud noise knowing that my engine is getting Fcked.

I believe trying 1 oil change going for 6-7000 miles on Redline shouldnt hurt, what you guys think?????

Thanks

I think you got it wrong. High tech is what they sell in Europeand is full synthetic

Synthoil is the lower gradw one for us formulation.

Oh well. It runs much better than any other oil factory included.
I trust Liqui molly. Their design and attention to detail is amazing. Ive used the ceratec and engine flush kits as well as fuel injector cleaners and they really do work as they say unlike my experience with royal purple.

Hello

i may have contaminated my new oil long story . But can that engine flush you mention above be used to flush my OM642 diesel oil and possibly free up some current flow problems?

The Redline has group 5 and is also a LongLife oil so extra detergents and dispersants , what's not to like ?

Exactly why I use VW 504.00 507.00 in a Merc !

My GL63 gets Motul X-Max 0-40 and runs very nicely with it. Happy to continue with this particular oil even if its quite rare here in the UK

Motul is a good oil too, but a company who hides their base stock formula for sure uses Group 3 or at the max Group 4.
Base oil group plays a big role in oil engineering plus the additives. Some oils use group 3 with high class additives which is as good as Group 5 base oil. But here the main thing is how natural you like, and group 5 is the most natural you get.

Like Ultra Thin "Life Style" vs Bare Skin If you know this difference then you would know what Redline vs Mobil vs Motul is LOL.
