Owning Off Warranty

I have a 2014 GL450 that has around 76k miles on it, It's been pretty trouble free in the 5 years we've owned it. The CPO warranty is going to expire next month, should I be worried about owning one of these out of warranty? I came from a 2007 GL 450 that I was very happy to have an extended warranty on. Mostly the problem was the air suspension on that model. Are there any bombs to look out for on this model, it seems to have much more reliable than the previous generation.

A gaggle of MB's
You are considering purchasing a 2yr CPO extension before your current 1yr CPO expires - right ?

You like your rig - and another 2yrs would be a plus for confidence - right ?

Yes - 1st gen GL's kindof has a 75K/80K "cliff" for airmatic failure's - one corner at a time - 2nd Gen GL's don't "seem" to have that same cliff - but peace of mind is peace of mind !

I actually wasn't considering it, I didn't know you could extend the CPO. Do you do that through the dealer?

yes. I assume you got uiur cpo in the same year it was first sold?

You can extend cpo for 2 years up to 7 years from first in service date.

You can call up any dealer. Tafel motors gets recommended on here often. You have to find on the forum which sales person though.

Call Cassandra 414-727-6715. Best deal when I was shopping for an extended CPO warranty through MB. Saved a ton buying the extended CPO from her. It's legit!

Got a quote of $5k for 3 years/36,000 miles. That seems really steep, I think I'll just keep the $5k and take my chances.

From?????? Did Jeff from Tafael motors gave you that quote?
That quote sounds more like after market sh 1t warranty quote. Because ELW or CPO extensions always go with wordings as 7YR/100K miles or 7YR/75000 like that.
You gotta be more specific with what you need. Because finance guys are leeches when it comes to warranty purchases. Be specific and shop around rather giving up. Also FYI it’s Benz where per hr labor rate is $135-$145 so warranty will cost you about $3-3.5k

thanks.

that's not a mb cpo elw.

Thats an aftermarket warranty from fidelity or the like.

Call asking about the mb cpo elw warranty. That is unlimited mileage for 2 extra years.

I have an extended warranty through Carmax administered through the warranty group. It has paid over 15k in the last 5 years.

If you want an aftermarket warranty at wholesale pricing troy at fd warranty is great to deal with and offers fidelity plans.

Lol my dealer hour rate is 159.95 here. 130 would be welcome.

I bought my 2013 GL550 from a private party few months back...69k miles. Financed through local credit union...asked about a warranty through the credit union and was quoted $12k for a bumper to bumper 4 year deal....I declined. Will take me changes. Love the wagon though.

ELW is not unlimited but CPO is unlimited. CPO is also less expensive to get additional coverage than ELW.

I made a mistake, my CPO actually ran out 2 weeks ago. Guess I'll just take my chances.

2014 Mercedes GL350
Hi All

I recently purchased a 2014 GL350 from the original owner with 48k miles, factory warranty expired in oct 2017, I called Mercedes dealer and found out I cannot purchase ELW with expired factory warranty, what are my options now? car seems to be running fine, I owned it for 2 weeks now, drove 500 miles, so far it is good, saw 30mpg on the highway.

After reading several posts on this forum describing issues, I want to purchase a warranty plan that covers emissions system and powertrain.

Thanks

Yes - I would be worried - though sound like you have been lucky with yours. My 2014 GL450 has had $6000 of non-maintenance type repairs in the first year off warranty. Terrible build quality. Air intake hoses disintegrate to massive widespread failure of things like the Airmatic.

FWIW, when I looked into a common 3rd party warranty for our GL350, it was both expensive and specifically excluded several of the big ticket items.

I passed.

I purchased 4 yr/45k miles worth of coverage with $100 deductible when I purchased my truck 12-17. I paid around $5500 for the coverage and it covers every major item on the beast, including the Airmatic suspension. After putting 11k miles on it, the only things I've done to my truck are an oil change and front brakes. Knock on wood, this thing has been extremely reliable, especially compared to my previous S600.

Was that a 3rd party warranty after the ELW or standard warranty expired? If so, who was it with. My ELW runs out late 2019 and I will be looking for options as well. (2013 GL350).

3rd party sold by the dealership that sold me the truck. It was outside of the original 4 years, so no Benz warranty was available for it. My coverage is through Warranty Solutions and is the "New 4 Star Plus" plan and my cost was $5395. IIRC, the dealer sold the warranty at a loss to them of around $1400. I did verify this as it was a point of contention at sale. The retail cost on that warranty with my starting miles and age was around $9k, which there was no way in hell I was going to pay.

Aftermarket warranty quote

Been shopping around for an aftermarket warranty for my out of factory warranty 2015 C300 and so far the best quote I've received is from Concord Auto Protect. 3yr/36k $1880, 4yr/48k $2100, 5yr/60k $2499. They are also adding an extra 6 months to any of their plans for free. It is the Premium Plan with a $0 deductible. Covers all mechanical/electrical but no wear and tear parts and you can transfer the policy to the new owner if you sell it. There is a 30 day waiting period and you can take your car to any Mercedes Benz dealership or ASE Certified shop. I checked with my local dealership (Mercedes Benz of Henderson) and they said they accept all aftermarket warranty policies. I only have 21k miles on this car so maybe that's why the quotes were pretty reasonable. Does anyone have any experience with this company?

I just checked into them. The pricing sounds really good. But once you look into the actual coverages, even under their premium policy, it goes south pretty quickly from there. They are really only offering a very basic level of named component coverage. Things that are normally covered under most other policies, such as the radio, Airmatic struts, Keyless Go, transmitters (Homelink) and many interior power items are not covered under their policy. So basically, the stuff that is normally prone to failure in these trucks isn't covered.

So you would recommend an exclusionary warranty then? (I saw your reply to someone else on a 3 year old post) I contacted Warranty Solutions to inquire about their coverage plans but they told me they are retail only. My local dealer offered me a plan that cost $7k through their 3rd party.

Exclusionary coverage is the best if you can get it. If you're vehicle is still under the original warranty terms, then you can get coverage through MB. If not, then hunt around.

What year is your truck and how many miles do you currently have?

was the air intake hose covered by your extended warranty? I have a comprehensive plan from First Automotive, the most coverage I can buy, and I was wondering if that air intake hose is covered. It is about $120 at the dealer...

It's doubtful that any warranty would cover that as it could be considered a wear item.
