No more new diesels, what should we do? (currently lease a 2016 GL350)

MBWorld Fanatic!
we have a 15 GL350 tuned by RaceChip piggyback just about to turn 40k on the clock and it has been a trooper - only thing as of late has been hard downshift into first gear when rolling through a parking lot - need to take it in and see - had same thing happen in my 05 E500 and the tranny shredded first gear, but that was due to faulty TCU -
great rig - only reason i would consider trading is the new interior layout and maybe upgrade to '63

GL350 Bluetec
We had two ML350 Bluetecs (2011 and 2014) and are looking for a GL350 currently.
Most of the issues are easily avoided.
Adblue/DEF issues - keep your DEF tank topped up at every oil change. I learnt this the hard way - good news is that the DEF system is quite accessible and easy to fix yourself with basic tools.
Oil changes - Every 7K miles or 10K Kms - see above and ensure Adblue is topped up
Oil Cooler lines - this is the result of people not understanding how turbo diesels work and that they require a cool down. Neither of our ML350s ever had an oil cooler line issue, but we cool them down before shutting off the engine. This is essential for turbocharged engines as the turbo EGTs need to cool off, as does the oil keeping the turbo cool. 60 seconds of idle time at the end of your trip will ensure long turbo and oil cooler line life.
The Air suspension is hit and miss. Our 2014 had the compressor replaced under warranty so it's a known issue. The same goes for all air suspensions - Ram 1500s, Escalades, etc.
