rear entertainment problem
I have a GL350 factory installed rear entertainment system. One of the kids put a lollypop stick into the DVD player unit and so the unit stopped working. Took it to the dealer who said it would cost over £2k to replace because it couldnt be repaired. Whilst searching for another option I must add that the front screen was always working and we could watch TV whenever the car was stationary. We had never used DVDs in the back because the kids were always satisfied with the TV. Anyway I went onto eBay and found the dvd player unit with the excat same model number as my old one. I bought it and got it connected but the TV still doesnt work in the back headrests. The writing for each channel comes up on the screen but no picture. Also no sound.
Ive put a dvd inside and that seems to play for a short time but again no sound.
Could someone please advise whether the unit I purchased on eBay is faulty or whether theres something I need to do to get the pitcure and sound working in the back.
Play dvd.
Click active audio/video for rear from the front command.
from rear dvd.
Click command video source.
It it should work.

I am also able to watch the rear dvd in the front!
So the only issue is and not being able to view the tv receiver in the rear despite the fact audio of the tv is working and the rear monitors are displaying the tv menu and the channel and all the other info that appears at the front. Only the programme doesn’t appear!
Hope you can see my photos now

From the fuse allocation chart I was unable to decipher which fuse to take out. Nothing on the chart indicates anything to do with the TV/DVD or rear entertainment system. Could you suggest which one I should check?
Ciuld you you share your vin and model year. The control unit changes from year to year sometimes. A 2015 is 2k. A 2016 is 500$.
Can you also share the model number of the control unit that was originally in your car and the replacement one you bought.
If you send a picture of your fuse allocation chart I can help.
im not sure of the vin, where do I find this. It is a 2015 model
This is my original unit
This is the advertisement of the unit I purchased on eBay

This can be gotten from the dealer for free if you call them. You can only get this from the dealer.
After they agree, I would ask them if replacing the dvd player requires new coding or flashing software for it to work properly with your TV receiver. Not everyone who has the dvd player opted for the TV receiver.
The vin is usually on the windshield far left bottom corner or on the drivers door placard when opening the door.
Laat question.
Does the dvd player in the rear function? Do you get power? Can you insert and remove a dvd? Does it play a dvd to the rear seats?
theyve said there’s no radio code, they mentioned something about it all being chassis related.
They also said that whenever replacing hardware like DVD players it will need new coding and said it could only be done if I took it into them and it was a genuine MB part.
im able to play DVDs in the back, im able to insert and eject them.
hubbys out with the car at the moment so can’t get the vin number as yet.
what do you advise now?
is there anyway to get the new coding done other than taking it into the dealer? Do you think they would have an issue with me buying the replacement from eBay?

If your good at that you can go with your best sing-song voice and ask if they can do it for free. Some battering of eyelashes may be required. Whether you're a man or woman.
Also some mb Independent shops als have the same software to code it; at least if they're any good.

I would hold off on saying you got it from eBay and if pressured say you bought it from a reputable spare company. Like Copart or lkq.
It's the same mb part so they shouldn't have too many issues.
I've been trying to find parts diagrams for your car but nothing on the US sites list anything for the tv receiver.
It's just a bit confusing. Correct me where I'm wrong.
Your dvd works on the rear. You can play dvda from the back dvd player to the rear seats. You can play from the front dvd player to the rear screens. Your front TV receiver works completely. You can change channels of the TV receiver in the rear but no picture shows up. You do not get sound from the TV receiver in the rear through the headphones.
I think its coding related. Picture and audio signals arent being relayed.
I think the best bet is to find a shop. Dealer or indy that has the coding/flashing capabilities. Batter your best eyelashes and ask in the best sing-song voice if they can help you 😬
Or if uiur in London try to to bring it to a different dealer and don't mentiom anything and explain that the TV receiver in the rear stopped working. Can you help me please? My mother has used this strategy with her car at times being firm and helpless and it's worked for her to get them to replace squeaking noises due to bad repairs, and fixing bad work.
You can be assertive

I’ve done some research and found that there is an MB independent shop not too far from me so I’ll check them out early tomorrow morning and see if they’re able to input the code. Are these shops generally cheaper than the MB dealers?
yes it’s really confusing. There’s just no option in the menu list to get the tv receiver to work in the rear. Even the owners manual doesn’t make mention of it.
Yes you’re right with all the facts that you’ve listed.
ill let you know how I get on tomorrow at the dealer shop, I’m not too good at battering my eyelashes but I’ll give it my best shot!
