Is it normal that my engine is lugging on the regular?

2014 gl450 m278 engine & ECU tune.

quick question: is it ok if my engine is lugging on a regular basis, even when I'm passing or accelerating?
Engine rpm stays right at 1000 (5,6,7th gear) when I'm cruising around 40 to 60 mph. It won't downshift until I use almost full throttle. Typical acceleration and passing is done lugging @1k rpm and I can feel the lumpiness.Even when I go WOT it downshifts conservatively. I have to use the paddles to drop 4 gears if I want any chance of spooling the rpms out!!!

You should never run regular with an ECU tune. Run premium only. The timing is being pulled because of detonation.

I dont't hink he mentions that he is using regular pump gas, but that his engine is running normally very slugflishly.

Have you tried scanning for codes? There must be something going on.
A simple trans reset might fix it too. Have you tried the tcu reset procedure?

I only run 93 octane, but good consideration...
I got a scanner in January when I tuned the ECU, and I didn't see any error codes initially. I'll hook it up again today in case any new codes are thrown.

And I'll have to look into a TCU reset. I'm not familiar with the process yet.
Edit: ok found it. Very simple and seems promising! I'll try it today.

Edit 2: just to add some perspective of how sluggish things behave, I use a pedal commander on city++ yet still have the issue as described above. If I take the pedal commander out, forget about it. In fact, after I got the ECU tune, I hadn't told my wife. To this day, she has no idea approximately +100hp lurks @ higher revs

From his posts it seems he got an eurocharged tune.

What kind of scanner do you have? It needs to be a mb specific scanner.

Do try the tcu reset. I suspect that might help, especially how you describe your wife's driving.
And please explain what a pedal commander is. I have not encountered that term.

Wait. Are you saying you have this product https://www.pedalcommander.com/produ...ander-p4-pc43/

And the eurocharged tune?

With the tune it already changes shift pointa and pedal reaction. It usually is one or the other. Tune or pedal tune and they usually do the same thing.

I would remove the pedal commander thingy and retune your ecu to the eurocharged tune.
Then complete a tcu reset.

These things don't play well with others....you've probably caused it to overrride each other

I've got this iCarsoft mbii iCarsoft MBII for Mercedes Benz/Sprinter/Smart Professional Diagnostic Tool Scanner ABS,SRS ect
Amazon Amazon

I don't think it will do a TCU reset. However, I went through the procedure this morning and I'm about to take a drive and see what happens.

Pedal commander is just a black box that physically sits between the accelerator pedal and the ecu. As I understand, it re-maps the 2d pedal signal curve and nothing more. If others claim it does more, then I don't understand how it would achieve that. In any case, my city++ setting on the pedal commander roughly equates to a sport setting, or more specifically a more aggressive use of the gas pedal.
PAgain as I understand, Pedalcommander isn't a true sport mode as found on most cars because it doesn't change any of the ECU/TCU mapping.

I added Pedal commander after my ECU tune.

TCU reset seems to have alleviated some of the issue. I am still thinking there is more to be done here.
