2013 GL550 Active Lane Keeping Assist and Adaptive High Beam Assist Inop

Hello,

Need some help to see if any of you have had something like this and what the remedy was.

I am getting active lane keeping assist inoperative message on dash and sometimes along with that Adaptive High Beam Assist inoperative.

Windshield is clean (no obstruction on camera by the rear view mirror).

All other systems are working correctly.

Battery and charging system are good as well.

I have been doing some research and some have stated maybe a bad camera or sensor. Are there any service bulletins about this perhaps?

It was at dealer this summer for service and they claimed I needed to replace 2 sensors in the bumper and some wiring (for the bus maybe) with which the bumper had to be removed to do it. Cost over 2 grand.

Question is, if I am getting both of these warnings wouldn't the camera make more sense to be defective rather than sensors in the bumper or no?

Thank you for any help or suggestions you may have!

We have had those messages come up on our 2014 GL450 also. It only happens in really wet weather when road grime is splattered up on the front end of the car or when it is freezing slush that adheres to the areas where the sensors are....

That's the weird thing everything is clean and dry for some time but the warning has been on consistently regardless of weather etc...

Probably a bad sensor as noted.

I had no idea the 2013 GL's had lane keeping assist, I thought it was only for the face-lift GLS models. How do you even activate it on the Pre-facelift GL's?

option code 238

check VIN on datamb.com if don’t wanna look in the car

turn on if it has it under the PRESAFE options in speedo cluster menus

So I went back and looked at the tech notes from the dealership and he stated "performed short test and found signal CAN is not functioning. This is almost always caused by corrosion in the rear radar sensors. The rear bumper would need to be removed in order to verify diagnosis. The mutli function camera is also in this CAN network."

Being that my Active Lane Keeping Assist and Adaptive High Beam Assist are both Inop (with warning messages as such) wouldn't the camera make more sense to be the issue rather than the rear radar sensors (I am assuming that they both work off the same camera in the front by the rearview mirror)?

I looked at the rear radar sensors and from what I can see of the connections etc... they look clean and non corroded.

Thoughts?
