Sound

If I recall, there was no action or sound. Manually, it would open close. The motor did nothing.
I did replace the module, I think it probably could just been repgramed.

If you are hearing the motor, it is trying. What if you pull the actuator out and try to activate it? Or, are you thinking the worm gear is stripped?

I would not think it is a module, I would pull it out and see if it functions. Mine was not getting the signal.

Thank you Silvergl. I hear you...I don't think it is the module either. Actually I believe it is the motorized strut having stripped gears. Apparently there is a motor as well as a small "gearbox" in the strut. I believe that the left strut got weak, meaning that the right motorized strut required more force to lift the trunk, thus eventually failed.
By trying the actuator by itself, do you mean remove the motorized strut from the car/trunk and just see if it works without any load?

Thank you
LL

Hi

I took my vehicle to Indy repair shop. He replaced the shock and motor. Solved the issue! It wasn’t the module. Now I’m getting a warning “check right brake lamp”. However, my brake lights are working.

Strut

That's what I would do, it sounds like it is already broken. It was a pretty inexpensive part if I recall. Only takes a few minutes to do.

It seems that it is the strut after all. I tried to take it off the car to try running it by itself. The upper hook was giving me a hard time to come off. Suddenly it pop out in pieces. The top hook came off and a huge spring pop out. Surprisingly the spring was in 2 pieces. About 3 inches of the spring was cut off (broken). Since it is impossible to compress that spring back in, my only option is to buy a new strut, which I did from a local MB dealer for about $300. Hopefully this will resolve the issue.

Hi, I’m having the same issue on my 2014 ML63 and it’s throwing the same code “B182813”. Just curious if you have the part number that your Indie used to replace the latch?

Thanks in advance for the help.

Update: After troubleshooting I realized the lock itself was the issue (had got wet and shorted out). I replaced the lock (part #2047401300) and now the trunk can be opened with the switch on the front door, the key fob or using the handle on the trunk (none were previously working). The part was about $225 and it took me about 30mins.

Hi @minubaba ,

I have the same problem as you, can you please tell me which part you needed to replace? I'd like to DIY this if possible and same $$ for drinks instead.

@walee112 I had the same issue on a 2014 ML but I believe the part is the same for multiple models.

Thank you so much @2waze2win ! This solved my problem on my W166 GLE!
I found the part (204-740-13-00) for $143.91 @ https://www.mercedesbenzpartsstore.c...tor-2047401300

Even made a (somewhat trashy) DIY video for future souls stumbling on this thread:

Hey i just solved the problem , you need new lock , around 200$ . Everything works until you closed the tailgate , after that ZERO responce from keys and all buttons on the truck itself .

I replaced with new one and everything start working perfect .

Real problem is > CARWASH > water drips from MERCEDES LOGO ( 3 holes ) DIRECTLY to the lock and after that electrical stuff inside the lock get short , DONE , cannot fix , a tryed to dry , to inject wire dryer , nothing helps , just need NEW lock plus you can caulk around 3 pins from LOGO to prevent water goes inside .

Hi, all. I'm having sort of similar issue with opening the trunk. The interior driver-side trunk opener switch is broken, the plastic button itself it totally loose. Does anyone know how to replace it? Do I have to pull it out to replace it or it's more a dismount of the door panel? This is for a 2017' C43 AMG. Thank you.

I know it's been a while - but prior to replacing the lock, was the lift gate CLOSING with the buttons? Mine does not open nor close with buttons and I have to pull it up AND down. Not sure how the new lock would help it go down - but electronics are mysterious, as we all know! Thanks

Nope , buttons doesnt react when the door was closed , they been operatable only when you open rear gate with the real key from inside through the hole
