Honest Opinion (2017 Ford Explorer Platinum vs 2013 GL550

Hello all, I haven't posted in a long time since selling my E63. I know these 2 suv's aren't Your typical head to head or even in the same class I guess. But I've always liked the body style of this explorer. Before Buying my E63 afew years ago my 1st choice was the GL63/GL550. But, the younger me opted for the e63. Now with family I wanted to make the very best choice in vehicles.

The platinum has every bell and whistle, 41k, ruby red. While the GL that I found in my price range has 80k miles, 2013, a single sun roof, motorized 2nd row seating, and that's about it far as options that was added or not added. Extended warranty is costing me about 4k for 2 years or 30,000 miles.

Both are big SUVs so of bbn course I'm not looking to get 40mpg but the ford does get better mileage, easier on the wallet for repairs etc.

I just want an honest opinion on the two. I was cross shopping the Infiniti qx56/80 back then when I wanted the GL but I kind of lost my love for it.

I know a Benz is a Benz but what do you guys think if you had to pick outbof bvn the two if these was your only choices right now. I know, it's not totally comparing apples to apples but yea.

Thanks

Unless you only plan on owning for 2 years or can do the work yourself, that age and mileage GL would scare me. You have kids now and they can get real expensive. If you are only keeping for 2 years then have some fun. My $.02

Edit, misread as GL350. Need glasses, LOL. 550 hand down! I found the Explorer to be very uncomfortable to drive long distances due to the way the brake and accelerator pedal sit in relation to your feet. The Explorer will be cheaper to own but the 550 is 10x the car as the Explorer. If you need the newest tech, go with the Explorer. If you like a fast, safe, ultra comfortable, and fun car to drive, go with the 550.

For what it's worth here's the carfax report. I believe it's a one owner.
I don't know much about the GL550 as far as major repairs to be on the lookout for but here it is.

Have you sat in the front passenger seat of the Explorer? There’s a bulge on the right side that takes up legroom and makes it uncomfortable for long rides imo. My wife and I cross shopped the Explorer before we ended buying her a new BMW X3.

Good thing the OP is not considering the diesel, huh?

Which vehicle do you want?

A good policy in my view is to buy the newest, lowest mileage vehicle that meets your transportation requirements, and is in your price range.

If both vehicles are in your price range, it is clear which one is newer and has fewer miles.

Question for you - which vehicle better meets your transportation requirements?

Yeah, I was on my phone and didn't have my reading glasses on. I edited my post after finding my error.
