Arnott rear shocks for X166 w/o ADS

Not the cheap Chinese knock offs. Those are the same as putting used leaky shocks wit 200,000 miles on them.
Bilstein shocks are going to run you about $550 each shock and I think factory is about the same. So essentially you have to pay more for non ADS than you do for ADS which sucks. Arnott ADS shocks can be found for less than $300 each. If Anott made them, they would most likely run less than $300 each.
Also, Arnott makes the non ADS for X164.

Really? On Arnott website when you filter by 2013 --> GL450 --> airmatic W/O ADS exc AMG, they don't even list rear shocks as an option. When I go on RockAuto, FCP Euro or many other sites, they don't show W/O ADS as an option. Also I have yet to find a picture of an X166 Arnott rear shock without the extra cylinder and plug attached which would mean its with ADS.
I'm not doubting you but please provide a link to what you stated. I would be very happy if I'm wrong

Ask Arnottdoug. He is on the forum. Not talking about without ADS. Their new with ADS has the ADS disabled. Their rebuilt with ADS still had ADS. I have no idea if they sell without ADS

I have a inquiry out to Arnottdoug and will post when he replies.
I couldn't imagine being someone who needs the ADS functionality and ordering new rear shocks with ADS from Arnott but the ADS functionality would be disabled.

Arnott is still purchasing and remanufacturing the Mercedes-Benz OE ADS struts but not the non-ADS ones. Both models have an Arnott new strut with zero miles and and no core deposit. While the Arnott new struts for ADS models were tuned to have an excellent ride and provide both the luxury and auto leveling of air suspension - they do not work with the vehicle's ADS controls. We do plug into the ADS system but only to provide a sensor that will turn off any ADS dashboard warning light.
As you noted, recently we moved away from selling direct in favor of continuing to build our three tier distribution modal (Sell to distributors, who sell to installers and resellers, who sell to or install on end user vehicles). This is typical for auto parts manufacturers.

Thanks a million BlownV8 for sourcing and posting that info, much appreciated.
I did notice the thread was about front struts not rear shocks. Even the clip you referenced from the thread was only talking about front struts.
Hopefully the Arnott rep will clarify.

OK, so after talking to the Mercedes dealership parts department, they would need to order the rear shocks at a cost of $326 per shock ($769 total) but would not share the parts number.
So I researched a bit more and found this:
Rear OEM non-ADS shocks for X166 part number: 1663202030. You may even find this part number on the shock: 1663261500 or 1663262300
I've found them as low as $250/each so far and still looking for them cheaper although I just purchased a brand new one being sold as OPEN-BOX from a MB dealer for $100. So at most, it will only cost me $350 to replace my rear shocks with original MB parts. Not bad for a little free research.
1663261130 are NOT for our GL's
I gave up on finding out if Arnott makes them but for some odd reason I strongly believe the non-ADS rear shocks made by Arnott and Bilstein for the X164 2008-2012 GL450 would fit but I have no proof except for a hunch. I do have an old pair off of a 2009 GL450 laying around in my garage. When I replace the rear shocks I will see if the X164 non-ADS shocks fit our X166.

So I found the old pair of OEM rear non-ADS shocks from my 2009 GL450 and compared it to the brand new OEM non-ADS for my 2013 GL450 and everything was an exact match from size and mounting points. They were identical.
So unless they made some technological changes inside the shock that were necessary for the changes on the X166 vs X164, I'm thinking they are the same shocks and would work equally the same.

So I finally replaced the rear shocks today on my 2013 GL450 (non ADS).
The part number of the shocks I took off were 1663262300.
I purchased a brand new OEM shock from a Mercedes dealership as an open box item for $100 and that part number was A1663261500
I also purchased a new one from a Mercedes dealership for $250 and that one was listed as the part number appropriate for my car: A1663262200
Part # A1663261500 was less than a quarter inch shorter than the one listed as appropriate for my GL. I measured all sections of both shocks and they were all exactly the same so I'm assuming the difference in height was within the shaft. Either way both fit perfectly and the ride is beautiful.
