Short version, the X166 GL350 will receive a new NOx sensor, DPF, DOC, ECU software update, and an extended warranty,

There is more discussion in the diesel sub-forum including a summary of the extended warranty here.

Once owners complete the emissions modifications at an authorized service center then the owner can file a claim for the cash settlement in the class action.

Thanks for posting. I had seen in the other forum and early results on the installation of the AEM "upgrades" seem to be positive. I will be updating my 2014 GL 350 asap.

Does anyone know if the "extended emissions warranty" includes the EGR? Mine has an EGR code now and loss of power, debating popping it out and cleaning it vs sending it to them to do.

Ugh. I just had my timing chain replaced at an independent shop - now covered under warranty. Glad I didn't get the EGR done - looks like it is covered under warranty.

It certainly makes one wonder if any repairs that were previously out-of-warranty would now be reimbursed?

Assuming they have the parts it's supposedly a three hour repair.

Does it cover the timing chain or only emissions related parts?

It covers the timing chain.

There's a link in the fist post of this thread to a summary of the covered parts.

Could not find the language where it covers the timing chain. I do see where someone else cut and pasted but I could not find that document.

FYI, it's on the main settlement website. Attached is the document for the 2014-2016 X166 GL's:

Looks like a list of common repairs on the OM642. Great news for the 2009 and later diesels. Wonder what happens if you already paid for those repairs? I'm guessing you have to eat it and try to recoup whatever you can based on the settlement amount?

My emission control system was completed . They had the car for two days, several of the parts had to be ordered.
All sensors, catalytic converter, remanufactured muffler system, software update. There was no thermostat change.
All appears fine.

2016 Sprinter-2500 4x4, 2007 MB-E350 Bluetech, 2021 Rubicon
I have a 2016 Sprinter 4x4 camper. I just spoke with my service writer at MB Gainesville, FL. I had him look up the technical repair for the AEM for this vehicle, and I am probably not going to proceed, at least not yet. There is replacement of the upstream and downstream knock sensors, and a complete reprogramming of all four ECMs. Takes about three hours and they have the parts. Problem is it apparently will result in a possible major reduction of horsepower, fuel mileage, and an increase in DEF consumption. If this is the case, a cash settlement will be far less than the long-term cost of operating the vehicle, especially if diesel prices increase like we anticipate as the public starts traveling again. I know this is not the environmental thing to do, but neither is burning up a lot more diesel. Sure would be good to have someone who has this done comment on these issues.

Where is the data to suggest HP, fuel mileage decrease, etc will be a major effect.?
I doubt very much this is accurate.

2015 GL350 Bluetec
I've been following this thread on the Diesel Forum part of this site. There's a bunch of replies about how vehicles are after the "fix". I haven't been paying attention to the Sprinter responses, but for the GL's like mine, reports are better power and a 2 MPG increase.

I said "possible" based on the fact that the settlement paperwork allows additional compensation of categories "3 mph reduction" and "6 mph reduction". What else is one to conclude? Also the service tech agreed, but couldn't be more specific. A 3 mph reduction on a vehicle that gets maybe 15 on the highway is a major reduction, wouldn't you say?
I think the prudent thing to do is hold off until we have more and better information.

That is great news. I would certainly hope that will be the situation with the vans, but prefer to wait for more experienced based information.

For Sprinter specific info, I'd suggested flowing the discussions in the general Diesel sub-forum if you have not discovered that yet. Here, you're just seeing the stuff specific to the 2013-2016 GL350 (X166) SUV.

Just completed a 500 mile trip and have not noticed any change in acceleration, drivability, or any other issues.
So far, all is fine. No complaints here.

Ditto. I had ours done last week and if anything, drivability and NVH are improved, especially when the engine is cold. I'm interested to get a few tanks of fuel into it to see if there's any noticeable mileage change.

The best part of the upgrade was the dealer filled up my DEF tank without trying to charge me $100 a gallon for the fluid!

Well I was wrong. Less than 200 miles from the repair and the AdBlue warning came up. I guess they stiffed me after all.

Maybe there is a crack in the AdBlue tank. Take it back. it should be covered under your new warranty.

Thanks a lot for sharing...I got the emission parts update, did not get any extended warranty from the dealer though....also I complaint about the timing chain rattling but the dealer said they did not notice it...off course it’s summer how can it rattle cos it only happens in cold weather...where can I file for timing chain replacement claim? Should I just call the Mercedes customer support number on the link in the first post?
