I own a 2016 GL450, so different engine. However, it has almost 85,000 miles on it and the only mechanical repair I've had to do is engine and transmission mounts about 1,000 miles back. It does have an annoying clicking noise in the driver seat that can't seem to be fixed. Otherwise, it has been a fantastic vehicle. We love the space, performance, cruise range on a tank of gas, and the comfort on long trips. I would suggest having it checked out thoroughly before the purchase by a reputable mechanic.

In addition, Run a Vin-check to see if it has the features you want and a car-fax to make sure everything is kosher. Make sure the pre-purchase inspection is by a mercedes mechanic to make sure that nothing is missed.

Hey Sunbelt, if I may, have you gotten a quote for the seat? I have the same car and I think it needs motor replacement but they want me to buy the entire square frame with it at the tune of $1500 just for the parts.
How did you know to replace the engine and transmission mounts? What were the symptoms? Cost to fix?

I've spent over $900 on the clicking seat. The seat cushion was replaced and helped for about 300 miles before returning. At one one point they suggested replacing the frame and the estimate was similar to what you quoted.

The engine mount was pretty easy to tell. You could feel the engine raise and drop when accelerating. If yours is the drivers side, put the vehicle in drive, hold the brake and accelerate. If it's bad you'll see the engine raise up and feel it drop when you let off the accelerator. The transmission mount was creating some rough shifts both up and down. From what I've seen I was lucky to get over 80,000 miles on the mounts. It is a common repair on these.

This place is a joke.
Reliable is relative. Is it reliable compared to a Lexus, nope. Is it reliable amongst other MB products? Fairly, but you will have repairs and maintenance throughout your ownership. The mounts will break, radiator and coolant lines may crack, if you're lucky you won't burn a valve but these engines do consume coolant.

Oh my. So sorry to hear about spending $900 and still not being fixed. Was this at a dealer? So are you going to get the frame/adjuster replaced?

This is the part the parts guy told me. They quoted me $1500 for the parts but Oddly enough, they do sell just the motor for about $300 but parts guy said I have to replace the whole thing. I am going to take it to couple indy shops then one dealer to compare. One thing I am afraid of is that they dig in and start working on it and call me to say I need additional parts replaced or get it replaced and still not working properly like your situation.

My car overall has been great. It has 70,000 miles now but its been 40,000 miles of bliss in my ownership. Just brakes so far.

Thanks for the pricing and information on the mounts. I do not have the issues now but I will know when it does. was this done at dealership also? I do have what I think is a solid indy but hes only done my brakes and personally I could have done it myself if I had the tools. This seat thing will be a true test for him. Thanks again and let me know if you ever get the seat fixed. I'll be interested. Take care!

All of the work was done at the MB dealer where I bought it. The seat noise is clearly coming from under the seat cushion. You can feel it move when it is clicking. It was suggested by someone that had a similar problem to pull the cushion and put two sided 3M foam tape on the U brackets. It resolved his problem. I requested the dealership to do it the las time I had it worked on, but they wouldn't do it. I'm going to try a different MB service center after multiple issues that haven't been resolved.

Just blows me away that a motor mount couldn't be designed to handle the load. Shameful engineering. I have owned a lot of cars and trucks with a lot of miles and never had to think about an engine mount.

By shameful engineering, surely you mean “over engineered”? It is but it’s pretty common in German vehicles from what I understand. Live and learn.

My E55 eats them like candy. GL63 still has original mounts with over 100k miles. GL450 still has original mounts at 250k+ miles.
