Makes me think twice about the iridium silver I ordered.

Sam, if you stick with silver you will have one of the only silver GL63's. I think it will look great in silver which shows off its lines. Also, silver doesn't show dirt nearly as much as the darker colors. I went with steel grey and couldn't be happier that it is different than what others are ordering.

In general terms, silver and Black are the two most common colors for Benzes. In my opinion an Iridium Silver GL63 will be nothing out of the ordinary (in terms of the general pool of them) even if the initial orders don't reflect this.

lots of nice colors out there but with silver, white and black - you can never go wrong with-
silver shows least dirt, next is white and then of course black

I had Irdium Silver on my 08 and it was like an egg in an egg carton, nothing special at all (could be a good thing if you dont want to attract attention )... was hoping to get Palidum silver for 2013 but its not offered this year !@!

In terms of maintenance the Irdium is the absolute best, I dont think I washed the vehicle more than 6-7 times during my 48 month lease.

Sam

That is great info on the colors! Thanks. Do you think you can twist your SA's arm and get the colors of the other 20 or so allocated to date?

I think the iridium's Silver will look great on the new GL.

I guess I might be the only one out there with a Pearl beige GL 63 if it ever comes.

Kind regards

Just emailed my SA. Lets see what he says. The build date for 2 allocation were 3/21 and 5/1. This makes me think the next build date would be end of May or early June with July delivery. We may not get info on next allocation until April - more delays for our GL63s.

I am starting to think I may actually get the 2014 S class before the GL63.

i think you will def get the 14' s class before the gl 63, and at this point unless u have a confirmed order with PO#, its probably better to wait and get a 14' gl63- thats what i would do- it would hurt to pay that much and get a car in June or July when the next MY changes a cpl weeks later

Sam:

Thanks. It would be really interesting to get more of a color breakdown.

Wow, the second batch will not be built until May. It sure does look like a 2014 for us at this point. The only way I would consider a 2013 delivered in June or July is if I could get it at close to invoice to soften some of the immediate depreciation blow . . . But then I can already hear Fabbrisd1 saying "that's not going to happen . . ."

I will keep you posted. I think as far as the price is concerned it will depend on the dealer. There is a lot of profit margin in an AMG and the dealer may or may not give a discount. It may come down to the relationship you may have with the dealer.

I agree on the point that 2014 maybe better unless the price is good on the 2013. Also another point to consider for 2014 is allocation and features of the 2014 model. If a dealer get an allocation for June and we pass up for 2014 model - who knows when they will get the next allocation - it may be mid MY2014.

I don't think Cookstar is trying to intentionally rub salt in our wounds be continuing to post cool info about a vehicle we can theoretically order but not really buy . . .

lol no I am not trying to that at all!, this thread seems like the go to place for the 63 so instead of creating a new thread every time a new video comes out I post it here.

I know. I did not mean anything bad against cookstar. I am disappointed with MB. You are so right "vehicle we can theoretically order but not really buy"

not sure where you live but the way I look at it is that I'll rather not have a brand new vehicle of this price point in the snow, would like to get 8-9 months snow free use out of a new car for once, I placed my order at the end of October so even for a "normal" GL the wait time is very very long.

I live in Texas so the snow is non existent. I placed the GL550 order in sept and the GL63 in December (8th). I passed the 1st 550 because I changed my mind. I wanted designo. The 2nd GL550 has been assigned a PO # now. It may be a March build. The GL63 order has not been accepted and not sure if it ever will. The only comfort is that many non-AMG PCs were also given the GL 63 allocation. Next set of allocations may be in April. Hopefully my "regular" dealer can be lucky in getting one now that I have cancelled my AMG PC GL63 order.

My paper states end of January build with a March 15th delivery so about 5 months from ordering to taking delivery ( estimated)
not that this has anything to do with delivery but how did you find the pricing of a regular dealer versus AMG PC (not sure if price was a considertation for you)? I had to haggle for 20 mins for a 2k discount from an AMG dealer downtown and they were ******* to put it kindley but my out of town dealer ended up giving me 3.5k

My decision to go with the AMG PC was not because of the price but for the reason I thought I could get an allocation. The price with the AMG PC was MSRP. I can probably get a discount with the regular dealer but never discussed the price since there is no allocation.

I was just joking with Cookstar as well . . . This is the spot for cool new GL63 info.

Sam, I hear your frustration with MB on this. To allocate only 33 to the US for what seems like the entire spring is more a joke than a real US launch. And what happened to April builds??? Like the new ML63 before this, I believe the GL63 will become sufficiently available a year from now - but that is a long wait. Sam, you have a much harder decision in the interim assuming yor GL550 comes in this spring and you still have no news on your GL63 allocation. I will be curious as to what you decide to do. I can absolutely see going both ways on this.

Kind regards

33 is quite low for a "regular" 63, if it was black series I could understand as those are limited production to begin with, as you said I think the delays are temporary, once we get into spring and summer they should roll down the assembly line faster... the same thing happened to a friend when the new SL came out, it was impossible to find any with the options choices he wanted (ended up waiting 6.5 months).

My local (northeast) PC told me: "your order has been looked at and approved by Mercedes-Benz Corporate. Although the build date was not scheduled yet, you are eligible to own one of the special cars!"

The sales rep said that I should not have an issue getting delivery by April (when our 09' GL550 lease ends). However, after reading this thread, I'm curious if that is the case.

Thoughts?

Sounds like you are a lucky one. Congrats. The only thing I would add is that its odd not to have a build date yet. To get delivery by April you have to be in the March 21 group which I believe is already allocated. Maybe MB is increasing allocations - I hope that's the case.

Ask your dealer for a PO number. If you get a PO number then the dealer is correct on MB accepting the order.

33 is horrible. I think its unfair for MB to advertise and promote the GL63 and not be able to deliver on purpose. I understand fabbrisd1's point that MB can get a lot more for the GL63 in the international market but US is its largest market. They should have done a better job.

Yes delays are temporary but we are still talking a wait that may span 8 - 9 months or more.

I agree with you 100%. US launch is a joke.
I guess April builds are going to Dubai and Russia. Velociraptor stated he is seeing GL63s coming down the line everyday. My question is where are they going and why does the US get only 2 build dates - 3/21 and 5/1.

I do have a decision but the only consolation is that I don't have to make it now. I can let the GL550 arrive at the dealership and hopefully the SA can hide it in the back and delay my decision making by few weeks like the last GL550.
