throttle surge between 2nd & 3rd
has anyone had a situation where you are noticing that the car surges between up shifting between 2md and 3rd and possibly between 3rd and 4th?
I've had this happen before and they reset the "learning" program in the car and it sorted the situation... but now it is back.

I've been complaining about this issue since I've noticed it after my first "A" service at 10,000 miles. They've did the same thing and reprogrammed and reset yada yada made absolutely no difference. Glad to hear it's not just isolated to me. Please pm if you want to get into details.

transmission slipping
ok.. got my car back from service.
the car was actually slipping between 2-3rd and 3rd -4th.
they replaced the 17528 Transmission Electrohdydrualic Valve Body.
apparently the solenoids were causing the issue (not the actual clutch packs).. all good now.

I've made an appointment at my dealer for a scheduled "BO" service on the vehicle prior to these posts. I am willing to give them one last opportunity to try and resolve this issue, any way possible for you to provide a copy of the service ticket with more details.....less all your personal information of course?

I think that if you tell them that the valve body was my problem it should be enough.. I thought that I sent you a PM directly with more information... if not.. they can call Silverstar and talk with the shop foreman... they know me and my car quite well.... not a lot of Silver GL63s running around NYC.

Finally
After many attempts to try resolve the throttle surge I was experiencing I finally called it quits with my service dealer. They told me that this was normal that the car was shifting irregularly due to it being a wet clutch. What a crock of horse crap! Basically because they weren't picking up any fault codes, they're answer was Nothing is wrong. I finally reached out to James at Silverstar motors on a referral from cyclryder, and I can't put into words how helpful this man was, before even bringing the car down he knew exactly what the issue was and how to resolve it. (Same issue as Cyclryder transmission valve body which they are currently replacing.) Bottom line is sometimes a stranger is willing to help you more than people you deal with on a regular basis. And I guess I'll be purchasing the rest of my vehicles from them also!

I'm glad you took my advice.... Silver Star in Queens has been a fantastic service dealer for me first and foremost. I had been going to Manhattan for years and dealt with Silver Star on a lark and minor issue... The service was excellent and prompt on a GL550 that I had not bought from them... I stuck with them. I ended up trading that 550 in (they gave me a better price on my trade than Manhattan) and bought my first GL63.
The Gl63 had issues that took 9 months to sort (bad connector in the optic ring)...Silver Star took back that car and ordered me a 15 GL63 that cost me the tax between the 2 cars. It was a fair and noble gesture.
Ask for Roy Richards in Sales and James McGrory in service... Mention Cyclrder with the Silver G63... They will treat you very well.

Picked up the GL last week, and man what a difference! Feels like a new truck, the tranny shifts are ultra smooth and couldn't be happier. No more throttle surges between gears or harsh downshifts going into 1st at a stop light.

Quick thanks to this thread, I lived with this surge since I got my 2014 GL63. At 62,000 miles I took it in and got approved for a new torque converter and transmission. It now shifts great and got new parts covered under my ELW.
FYI they tried changing the software and nothing would fix the surge. So new transmission it was.

I made them finally change my transmission at 36K on my 2015 GL63 and it worked 90% better but as of 65K last Friday... it was back and very annoying... funny, the 9 speed in my new E63 s wagon that I traded for has the silkiest tranny that I have ever had in a Benz.
will miss the GL.... for maybe another 12 hrs...

Yup... Gl is gone. But I have to say... when they come out with the redesigned GLS63 in two years.... I’ll be back. The 9speed transmission in my new E63 wagon is splendid. I also have to mention that my GL still holds its own with power, handling , and practicality. It truly is a fantastic car...I didn’t want to make this my keeper with that stupid up rev between 2nd and 3rd.
i got $51K but I also got a ton off the wagon as it was a dealer owners car with 4800 miles....

What discussion did it take with the dealer to replace the converter and tranny? Not a cheap undertaking so assume the shifting was rough? Mine is not terrible, but it is not smooth. And definitely clunky from 2 to 1 coming to a stop.

Yes - that's the clunk that happened. It's gone now.

I just asked my service adviser and the tech couldn't fix it so they actually had HQ remote troubleshoot with the Master tech. They confirmed it wasn't up to spec and swapped it out. The transfer case was questionable to replace, but the master tech was able to convince HQ to get it done all at the same time.

And so I'm clear, your symptoms were clunky down shifting from 2nd to 1st and hard/clunky shifting between 3 and 4 or 4 and 5? Or just one of those? I have both...not terrible, but doesn't feel right.

I have brought this up to my tech, whom I know fairly well and have purchased multiple cars from the dealer, but he wasn't aware of a 'real' issue. I will press on it however as they for sure don't want to voluntarily replace a transmission.

"Transmission - slipping between 2-3rd and 3rd -4th - check software and transmission. Here is what another member had done:
"17528 Transmission Electro hydraulic Valve Body. apparently the solenoids were causing the issue (not the actual clutch packs)""
This started the process and 1-2 months later, I have a new transmission and transfer case.
