Question GLS63 Exhaust Question

So I'm still pretty annoyed that there wasn't an "S" version of the GLS63, so you couldn't get the AMG valved Performance Exhaust on the GLS (at least in the US).

1) I know Brabus and GT Haus make valved exhaust options. Anyone else make a valved exhaust for the GLS that I'm not aware of? Or any decent aftermarket exhaust control valve that's reliable and worthwhile? I want to make the exhaust louder but still be able to control the volume (eg when driving in the neighborhood at night).

2) I also read on here that RADO makes a DP w/ a high flow cat for the GLS63, but couldn't find it on http://world-motorsports.com. I'm leaning toward the RADO cuz I don't want the no cats exhaust smell.

TIA!

Capristo has a valved system for the GLS63. I have a 3" Xpipe in place of the resonator and it sounds great. I can't imagine what it would sound like with Capristo's system.

Yea...I have a hard time justifying $7K in a catback lol.

DId you fab the the X-pipe, or is it a bolt-on piece (eg Supersprint)?

Just aftermarket cutouts, vented to the atmosphere? So completely bypasses the factory exhaust?

How's the sound and smell with the catless DP + resonator?

I bought a universal 3” Xpipe from Jegs and had it fabricated at my local muffler shop. Paid $75 for the part and $100 for the labor.

Yes full bypass of the stock mufflers if so desired.

smell? Barely noticeable to me vs my E55 which smelled with windows down at lights. The E didn’t have cutouts but was catless. With the exhaust so far back don’t get any real smell.

I will snap a pic and upload the cutout location later on. I have a few videos I can try to post to YouTube and share too

That would be awesome; I'd greatly appreciate a video. Considering catless DP and tune, but wanna make sure it's reasonable around the neighborhood, given the exhaust isn't valved.

Here are some vids and pics. We have a 550 but similar motor of course. The 63 mufflers do allow more free following still so on the Downpipe and no cutouts or closed cutouts gives you a good idea.

Open all the way they become a bit much for me. I keep them about 20% open usually unless I pull up against something to let them know this big ol SUV is quick too. I think fully opened should be a bit deeper?!?

In the acceleration vid the cutouts are open all the way.

Very nice. Not worried about the decreased clearance with the cutouts?

Also anyone know where I can find the RADO high flow DP?

No issue with clearance and never think about it.

I paid $1595 shipped for my catless from world motorsports. The high flow cat version is about $2500. I dealt with Craig in 2017 and he even responded on a Saturday!!!

Cost was I think $500. The only delay is the parts diagram shows no gaskets but there are actual gaskets. They reused one but had to replace one. I don’t have the email exchange and the car is in out of town and it might have the papers with the part number. I will check it when it comes back home in a few days.

Sounds great. Where did you get the equipment for the electronic cut outs? Thinking about catted rado DPs w/these cutouts on my 63.

I was watching some videos of the capristo exhaust on youtube. Man does that sound great, but I worry it could not be adjusted to a level that is tolerable to my wife and kids, though it could definitely drown out their complaints! Do you think your setup with catted dps would be tame enough to role around w/family in tow?

The Capristo when the valves are closed, seems quieter than stock. I have an Xpipe in place of the resonator and it pops and bangs in Sport + but in comfort mode there’s no pops and bangs. I think by doing the Xpipe and Capristo back box, we will have the best setup for everyday driving. On YouTube if you search GLS63 Capristo Exhaust, there is a grey GLS63 with Capristo Exhaust. You can hear a big difference between open and closed valves.

You have downpipes with this? The capristo is already installed? Does taking out the resonator result in any drone?

Stock downpipes. Stock muffler. 3' Xpipe to replace the resonator. No drone just a very aggressive bang when you shift up and a more refined turbo v8 sound. You can hear the turbo whistle more as well.

Don't install an X pipe on a turbocharged car unless you don't mind losing power.
