GL63 AMG or GLS63 AMG Ownership - Any feedback from owners

Hi guys

I currently have a 2017 GLS 450, the lease is coming to an end and was considering a GL63 AMG, or GLS63 AMG. My question is, how reliable are these AMG's? I owned an S4 before, Audis high spec line and I wont bore you with the details but it was rotten and constantly having very expensive issues despite being babied and never abused it got very expensive and just a nightmare in terms of reliability, it put me off high spec cars until now.....

I was thinking either a GL63 or GLS63 AMG, versus a Land Cruiser and sticking with reliability !

Any feedback from you guys? I wont be buying new so im worried about the previous owner thrashing the car even if it has 25,000 miles or less on it. I was however thinking of buying extended warranty for 5-7 years because of the risk.

The current GLS450 was on its second set of tires at 11,000 miles, and they do seem to go through tires a lot.....outside of that and brakes/rotors which im hearing about any other feedback from you guys? This would be my first AMG.....and second Merc

You can't go wrong with either one. Seem to be reliable. Another poster just traded in his 270k miles 2014 GL63 for a 2020 GLE63. He was impressed with the car and reliability.

Toyota Land Cruiser will be more reliable but it is woefully boring and not even in the same stratosphere of comparison to a GL/S 63.

If you ate tires in the 450, you will destroy them in the 63. The 63 eats them for fun. If you drive aggressively, expect to get 5k out of yours if you only get 10k out of the 450.

You can get brake rotors and pads cheap. I just got a set of rotors and pads from Amazon for $200 delivered for my 63.

270,000 miles without a hitch on my 14 GL 63. Maintenance is expensive, air suspension needed replacement at ~ 120k or so but that was pretty much it. No reliability issues and the day it left the garage all of the accessories, including the Night Vision, still worked. Liked it so much I got a 19 GLE 63s AMG.

I've owned a GLS63 for about 18 months. No issues with reliability but it is a big consumer.

1. Gas avg. about 15mpg
2. Tires, I've stuck with the OEM Contis
3. Pads, I switched to ceramic with much better results than OEM

Pros
4. Super smooth, comfortable, can be very fast and very stable
5. Radar Cruise, lane tracking are fantastic exp in heavy California traffic.
6. Not big like Tahoe, Expedition

Cons
- Front sensors beep at odd times but you get used to it or can hit the button to shut it off.
- Auto fold up for 3rd row entry but manual to get them back into position. esp. headreasts.
- 3rd row have to remove headrests to make it practical for frequent up/down.

I've had my 2016 GL63 for three years and three months, and it has been extremely reliable. I have only performed scheduled service and known recalls with no real issues. The "consumables", as I call them (tires and brakes), are another story, as both have been replaced multiple times. I moved to Continental DWS06 and get more wear now with no real change in handling, but pads have been replaced three times all around, and rotors once. I have 26k miles on the big AMG. Bottom line... I love it.

The price has increased but still a good value.

Good luck in finding an extended warranty for the GL63. I was able to find one, and the best they could do was 3-years and 60k miles. That's only an additional 10k miles over the manufacturer's warranty. It also cost around $7k. It is through Zurich.
