New to me 2015 Mercedes GL63

I am making a move back to Mercedes after a while. I owned an S63 years ago then went to an Audi S8 then a Porsche Panamera Turbo now coming back to a GL63 AMG. The other cars has proven difficult to live with having a small child. Any issues or concerns with the 2015 GL63? What's the body code of these? Any recommended upgrades that are a must?

Welcome! I have a set of brand new Forgestar F14s in 22x10.5 all around made for the GL/GLS63. Let me know. People usually just do a resonator delete and tune for more power and sound.
body code is X166

As Johncy said body code = X166.

1) like with any AMG, get an extended warranty.

2) Sienna, Porsche Panamera Turbo Executive and GL63 is what I use to haul the family around. Safe and enough space for the kids.

3) Exhaust mods are amazing - best bang for buck is remove resonators. If you want to go all out, every piece adds more to it. New downpipes with high-flow cats (GESI) = no check engine light. mid-pipe - remove resonators or replace with superprint mid-pipe. Rear section - Johncy has a nice Red Star Exhaust for sale as valved is the way to go. I have a Brabus valved exhaust.

Tune is great, I went with OE tuning. Wheels/tires is another.

I had a regular Panamera Turbo, the trunk space is too small with a stroller in it. I did sign up for an extended warranty but looks like the deal may fall through. The vehicle has 3mm of pads reported by the tech in March, they are saying that they already safetied the vehicle and don't want to change the pads. I'm really pissed off.

They're going to lose the deal to change $200 worth of brake pads and 30 minutes of labor to drop new ones in? Crazy.

Trunk space is small for the panamera, especially with that cover. I think the GL63 is a great deal right now, right point at depreciation curve.

It looks like it. I got into an argument with the salesman. The finance rep is now dealing with it. I am surprised that a reputable dealership would act this way.

Resonator delete is a MUST! It's less than $300 and it makes me take a 20 min trip to the grocery store 5 min away just to hear the sound...and I've owned it for nearly a year.

Would like to hear more about tuning though. I have a little over 2 years on my extended warranty so nervous to touch it now, but could be talked in to it if there are noticeable gains and limited risk.

Huge noticeable daily driving characteristics. I was in the same boat and decided to just go for it and happy I did. Note that I already had the cylinder 5 issue fixed under warranty - if you didn't have that come up yet and you're under 60,000 miles, I might wait until you hit around that mileage. Most show up around 50-60k.

Who is the extended warranty through; any details on it? My 2015 is warrantied until 2022 and 60k miles through Zurich. That was the best I could find.

I got one year as it was a CPO purchase, then bought an additional 2 through the same program.

What is the cylinder 5 issue? I just had a check engine light pop up and my Indy said there is a misfire on cylinder 3. 18 gls 63. This is why warranty is a must.

Cant go wrong with resonator delete. I was contemplating on doing it on mine, and finally decided to give it a go earlier this Feb. Exhaust note is tremendous. Crackles/burples/pops mores o now during shifts and downshifts

Cruising speeds on motor way or city remains quiet with a slight or rumble. but on WOT, its a monster. When i do such behaviours when driving, people look with a "?" on their face, because its quite unbelievable, that an SUV of this sort can make such beautiful sound.

oh, you can also hear the turbo's spool much more form the outside also esp on low RPMs
