Thumbs up GLS 63 Resonator Delete Experience w/ Video

Just got it done yesterday. Replaced it with 3” SS straight pipes.

What do I think?

1) it def has more “crack” to it.
2) driving in Sport+ mode the exhaust is always present and a little overbearing. Don’t consider cruising through your town with it!
3) even the slightest engine brake and it lets you know
4) inside the truck I’m not considering sport modes with the wife and kids in the car
5) comfort mode is much better but there is still a presence of the exhaust. I was hoping less so than it is.
6) AMG sound is not quite the same. There is something pleasant about it with the resonator and this is definitely more in your face.

So will I keep it? Not sure yet. It’s great but anyone that says it’s not noticeable in the car is crazy IMHO. I know it’s all subjective but you will know it’s there... always.
I had them leave a lot of meat on the resonator so it would be easier to reverse. I’m wondering if I went with an H pipe or smaller 2.5” straight pipes if that might tone it down a bit. The delete cost me $180 at my local shop.

All in all a cool mod and dare I say sounds nastier than my old CLS 63 with the delete.

Cold start to engine settle and then a couple accelerator pops.

Just some food for thought for those on the fence.

It is DEFINITELY noticeable. Did mine with 2.75“ pipe to match oem size. I always drive in sport and agree that sport+ is a little excessive with the resonator missing.

Well we’re about a month in and my feelings are the same with the exception of a nice surprise.

The exhaust is still very loud in cabin when cruising along. We take a trip to Florida and I can’t imagine not getting the resonator reinstalled.

The one positive is the old pre-resonator delete AMG Sport+ sound is now in normal sport mode so that’s cool.

Elec exhaust cutouts are great to give your the sound when you want and be quite on those long drives. Our GL has catless downpipes and no res. Cutouts linked to the homelink buttons to open and close like factory option.

here is sound fully opened

Got rid of it last year. Went back to stock a few months after. Was just too obnoxious and my wife hated being in it so that pretty much made the decision.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll just stay with the factory exhaust. It has a good sound as is and like you said I don't want it to be obnoxious and the family not want to ride in it.

Thanks for this matey, question for you, I had an AMG GLE 63s before from late 2018, was the delete the same level sound as the old 5.5L V8? (Same as on the 2019 G Wagon). I love my 2021 AMG GLS 63, but I am gutted about it's sound.

I feel the same. Did you get anything done to it?
