3rd party extended warranty or repair savings account?

I have a 2014 GL63 with 68k miles. All warranties have now expired. Haven’t had any problems with it but terrified of the big ticket issues that could hypothetically occur. I was offered a 3-yr 36k mile platinum extended warranty for $10,000 that is essentially bumper to bumper. It has a $500/incident deductible. Would you purchase the warranty or build a savings account much like a health savings account in order to deal with repair costs?

Cylinder 5 issue = $10k-$15k fix
Oil in wiring harness (which I'm pretty confident if you checked you'd have it, check your camshaft sensor connector = $8k-$10k fix
Transmission and transfer case = $15k fix

Even with all these repairs, the chance of all three happening to you within 3 years is pretty slim and $10k is a lot with a $500 deductible.

If it was $6k or less, then I'd buy one. Not at $10k.

Hey Mark, an extension on your Mercedes-Benz warranty with Freedom Warranty would cover you for 5 yrs / 32k miles, for half of the price, with only a $100 deductible, covering non wear or maintenance items and aesthetic damaged covered by your insurance company. I can even throw in a $500 forum discount. Contact me at tgibson@highline-autos.com or (602) 909-9216 for a transparent example contract and quote.

If you know a reputable independent repair shop, forget about getting an extended warranty.

Many see a warranty as a "saving account" held at the dealer or repair shop. You pay x amount and have 3x in repairs available.

I prefer the warranty. I've never owned a Mercedes that hasn't used the warranty and always paid out more than the warranty cost.

Plus, I can go to the dealer and get a free loaner.

Exactly, last time I had warranty work done at the dealer, w/ my third party warranty, a loaner vehicle was only $25.

Love warranties too but I will only go with Mercedes ELW, CPO, or Carmax and at one time Chrysler Services Warranty but they no longer write MB's. I do not trust anyone else, maybe Fidelity. Lots of horror stories and I don't need the extra stress caused by purchasing a warranty from an unbacked warranty company that is not very well known name and trusted brand. Maybe there are good ones out there so do your research and do it thoroughly. If there are multiple red flags, do not think your outcome will be different.
