Winter wheel sizing help

Hi. New to the GLS world as I just purchased a 2018 GLS63. As I wait for the car to arrive, I am researching wheel combinations for winter usage. The Mercedes online parts sites list a 19 and 20" wheel as working with this vehicle. Has anyone used these with this car? The parts departments I called said that Mercedes only recommends -1 size from what came with the car (I have 22" wheels). I'm happy to go with a 20 as the cost is more reasonable and the tire options are much better at a lower price than with the larger wheels.

Any help would be appreciated. It's annoying that the mbusa website says it will fit and the dealers are saying no (using the VIN).

The part numbers I am looking at are:

166-401-34-00-7X21 (20"

166-401-13-02-64-9765 (19")

From what I've read, you should be able to run 20" wheels. Not sure 19" would clear the caliper.

Thanks for the reply. It's hard to get a straight answer although I'm 99% sure a 20 will clear and from I have read the 19s should clear. So this is my second time around with an AMG product and I forgot how absolutely *pathetic* the MB parts support is. I've reached out to a few dealers, dealer-run online parts stores, and they contradict what their website data shows. No one is really interested in actually confirming anything which could lead to a 3-5k sale. So crazy. What I do know is that I will not be purchasing the wheel package which contains the awful Pirelli winter tires.

Thanks again.

Tirerack says the 19's will fit. Order from them. If they don't work, you can send them back. With that said, there are probably more choices with the 20" wheels.

Tire Rack has a few 20s to chose from. Limited options right now due to supply issues. Not sure I want to go with their wheels given size/weight/power of this vehicle. Haven't always had great luck with aftermarket wheels on the lower price point. I also have the wheel and tire protection plan so if I stick with Mercedes OEM they will be covered.

Just make sure the wheel is TUV approved, rated for the SUV's weight, and you will be fine. I've had better luck with good aftermarket wheels than OEM wheels and I've been running stock and aftermarket wheels for over 20 years on my MB's. Forged is best for weight but for a winter tire I'd be OK with a good cast wheel.

Thank you. Do you have a part number? Is it the 20 I listed?

Thanks.

Could you send me a pic of the wheel? I can find the part number that way.
