M157 Tune options that aren't several thousand dollars?

I'm looking for those who have experience with the cheaper tunes. I just can't bring myself to drop $4k on renntech or $2500 on eurotuned when I've spent under a grand on tunes for everything else I've had tuned. And real tunes, not piggy backs. So what are my options? I've seen the racechip and a tune from dudmd, anything else out there?

It's the Mercedes tax. With that said, Renntech will give you a combination of the best power and reliability. They also stand behind their products and will not dodge your calls if you have any problems.

Likely a local tuner with a Dyno

You get what you pay for. If a tune is important to you, why would you spend half as much and be less than satisfied? Do it right or don't do it at all.

Id suggest premier tuning group. I do want to point out owning a $130k+ truck and complaining about paying $2000 or more to gain 120hp / 180tq seems rather absurd. A replacement engine is only $70k. You could check out some $200 amazon and ebay super chip tunes lol.

I dont know if you've looked at the values for these things lately mate but residual value on AMG SUV's (other than the G) drops faster than a dress on prom night. That $130k SUV I have was bought for $41k and is worth about $35k now. I'm not necessarily cheap, but I also dont just **** away money toward the MB Tax for no reason. A really good tune should be ~$1000, and with that said I have had GM, Ford, and Mopar stuff tuned by the best in the business for $500-$800.

good luck finding your really good tune for $1000, and telling the market what they should price their products at lol. What you paid for the vehicle is irrelevant. So it depreciated 70%,now go buy some replacement parts for 120% of what the parts cost when the truck was new. Also please find me $5-800 tunes making 120hp/180tq gains? especially on low production vehicles. There is no better bang for buck. you'd rather spend $500 on a tune for 30hp and $1500 on some headers/exhaust/intake to gain another 20hp. You could also go buy a whipple kit for like $7000 and get 120hp/180tq though on your domestic and I'm sure you think that's a bargain. just saying.

Reading between the lines, I’m sure you understand that your car parts are equivalently priced to the value of your car when it was new. That engine when you have to replace it because of your cheap tune is $70,000 new. The tune is new and priced accordingly. Nobody in their right mind looks for a cheap part to put on an expensive engine. Perhaps you should read a little bit more about tuning this engine and all of the negatives that might come with it.

Comparing it to gm ford and mopar is like comparing apples and hand grenades. Hundreds of thousands of cars per engine model are sold from those brands where the M157 engine is nowhere near the same. It’s a hand built engine after all.
