Mercedes just reported a 9% drop in Q2 global sales, with even sharper declines in the U.S. and China. Tariffs have hit hard, especially on high-end models, and many dealers are holding extra inventory longer than usual.
Im thinking holding off a few months for a CPO 2024 GLS63. By then I should be able to find a well optioned one under 110k if the decline continues.
What do you guys think?

No word yet on new tariff threats for the EU. Mercedes said not to worry. But all the uncertainty has hurt demand. I think you are on track as far as prices, for now.
How can you attribute that to tariffs? Asking a serious question as well. I have not seen any increase in MSRP or used car prices due to tariffs anywhere. I am just asking what your data point(s) is/are and why that tariff is coupled with the CPO and $110K price point for your GLS63 quest. If anything, I would think the used car prices would stay the same for longer due to the new ones having the threat of tariffs hovering around.

Great question! I read a couple articles that pointed to this and did some chatgpt pro research as well lol. Data is showing sales on the higher end models like the s63 and gls63 or gls600 dropping the highest while the lower end models are still selling.Originally Posted by PHXATC

Tariffs don’t directly make the higher end Mercedes cheaper but it says that they disrupt the global flow of cars, increase dealer pressure to sell what's already there, gives buyers an advantage to push for better deals, and indirectly accelerate price drops on the slower moving higher priced models like the GLS63 or S63. My local advisor said they cant get new ones if they dont sell the old ones in simple terms.
Here is one of the articles I read

I've been an MB buyer for 30 years but not sure I would buy one manufactured after 2019 due to the 48v system. If they ditch the hybrid drive stuff, I may buy another.

To be fair, it seems to be pretty reliable nowadays starting like 2023 or 2024 model year. I say give it another chance before leaving. Originally Posted by BlownV8

I've seen and heard them to be more reliable 22+ after the updates. Warranty is important but thats with all high end modelsOriginally Posted by BlownV8

You won't know about reliability until they start passing 200k+ miles and you certainly aren't going to have a big enough sample size after only a few years being on the market.

Yeah that won't be a problem. I definitely wont keep any car past 200k. Ive owned S classes since 2007 so I am aware of the change in reliability but thats all high end brands. My brother had 2 lemon X7ms back to back lolOriginally Posted by BlownV8

The point is, if a vehicle can be reliable for 200k miles, it will be reliable from 0 to 100k miles too. Most MB issues do not occur during warranty but some over the years have had catastrophic failures before they hit 100k miles. There are certain MB vehicles I wouldn't buy over the years, OM642 emissions equipped diesel, M156 equipped vehicles, M278 equipped, should have stayed away from any vehicles with ABC suspension over the last 20 years, and now anything from MB that is in anyway a hybrid or 48v system as there have been so many issues.

Stay away from E-ABC as well if keeping it for a long long time. Originally Posted by BlownV8
