Halogen Headlight Bulb Replacement

Hopefully this thread will be helpful for anyone who's unlucky, like me, that purchased/leased the GLA250 without the Bi-Xenon package.

So I got this well loaded GLA250 with Premium, Multimedia and Sport Package , plus some interior extras, with a window sticker of MSRP $42,160

And, despite I'm mostly satisfied with it, it's missing the bloody $850 bi-xenon package...........

As a result, the tiny yellowish halogen light from the old-school reflector halogen housing is just ridiculously cheap looking and ruins the entire car completely, especially when the low beams and the DLR are both lighted on in the night... A Facebook friend who live in UK even asked me if I bought a used 2012 A class....

Since MOD is not allowed with a lease, retro HID is out of the question.

So my only option is changing the OEM cheap yellowish halogen bulbs with good halogen bulbs produces 'xenon like cool white lights', which I already did once for my ML350. (which is missing the lightning package too....)

The 2015 GLA250 manual listed bulb used for the low beams are H7 55W, which is pretty common used bulb. I've ordered a pair of Phillips Diamond Vision Halogen Bulb to replace the low beams bulbs, will post pictures after the bulbs arrives

Yet the Highbeam / DRL bulb of GLA250 appears to be the H15 15W/55W. So far I haven't found any available replacement bulb to fit.

I've looked at Phillips, PIAA and Sylvania; none of them have any H15 bulbs available yet...

Does anyone has any suggestion regarding the replacement of H15 bulbs? Even unknown makers from ebay will be okay, as long as they have the blue tints and produces white lights. (no 'HID conversion' kits, please)

Without the replacement of OEM H15 bulbs, the White low beams + Yellow DRL gonna be a weird combination. I'll basically turnoff the DRL before I can find a replacement for the tiny yellowish OEM H15 blubs...

I'll keep this thread updated on my findings for the H15 highbeam / DRL bulbs too...

Thanks,
- a depressed GLA250 owner

That's the one option with mercedes you do not skip on. I did it once and would never do it again. It makes the car look totally different.

Hmmm when I got my 2014 ML350 without Lightning Package I was totally fine with it, since it got the LED DRL anyway. The ML350's $1,290 lightning package is merely for the Adaptive Xenon Headlights. Later I switched the factory bulbs with PIAA and they look as good as those equipped with the lightning package.

But with the GLA250, it's a different story, since the LED DRL is embedded into the Bi-Xenon headlight. The $850-Xenon Package is really a must-have..DRL without the Bi-Xenon package is UN-acceptable and I'm almost thinking about putting the GLA onto swapalease...

2012 ML350
I've seen h15 5300k bulbs available on eBay. With that said I have a GLA on order and just added the bi-option rather than spend 125-150 for two sets of hid look bulbs to cover the low beams and hi beams/drl. Those aftermarket bulbs tend to not last very long either in my past experience so will need to be replaced often.

The bulbs arrived and I've installed them to replace the OEM bulbs.

In the pictures below, OEM bulb is on the passenger's side , Phillips Diamond Vision is on the Driver's side.

Try candlepower.com Bought OSRAM 65watt bulbs from them for my C350 COUPE. Large improvement. Cost under $40. They have a very large variety of bulbs and were very helpful. Give them a call.

You should see what they did with the E class on the lighting package

I followed your lead Yuzone, and I ordered 4sets of Philips diamond vision. They look fantastic! They have a very very slight bluish tint that does not look ostentatious or cheap.

Since these types of bulbs tend to have a shorter life, I'm keeping 2 sets in my car, and working on making a quick access panel to change the bulbs easier until some aftermarket headlights are available for the GLA's.

Thanks for posting Yuzone

Great !!! I'm glad that you like them

Since we already got a solution for the low-beam H7 bulbs, I've been searching for a good H15 bulb to replace the OEM bulb for HighBeam / DRL .

I just got a pair of "GP Thunder 7500K H15" from amazon last weekend. After installing them I found the high-beam light omitted by these bulbs are the nice-looking 'cool white'...yet for the DRL they're still producing is a weak yellowish light. Seems like we'll need to find a bulb produces white light even being lit on a low power...

Any bulb we put into the high beam slot is going to be yellow because in DRL-mode, it is only giving out a reduced percentage of light. One possible option would be an H15 LED bulb that cannot be dimmed, so it is constantly putting out the optimal color temperature. They make LED bulbs in standard fitments now, however, finding an H15 might be tough in LED form...

I still can't get over how much the Philips Diamond Visions look just like factory HID's! I think people will be very pleasantly surprised.

Hey yuzone, any update on the LED H15 bulb? Did it work? Do you need the resistor mod?

Thanks.

Hi Ansron,

They did work good without any resistor. Basically it's a straight plug & play.

But unfortunately the car gonna lose the High-beam with these plug & play LEDs.

Here are some photos :

Hello,
You can just follow the manual(page 118 ) for the H7 low beam blubs change

Low-beam headlamps/parking and
standing lamps (halogen headlamps)
X Remove the cover in the front wheel housing
(Y page 118).
X Turn housing cover : counter-clockwise
and pull it out.
X Turn bulb holder ; counter-clockwise and
pull it out.
X Take the bulb out of bulb holder ;.
X Insert the new bulb into bulb holder ;.
X Insert bulb holder ; into the lamp and turn
it clockwise.
X Align housing cover : and turn it clockwise
until it engages.
X Replace the cover in the front wheel housing
(Y page 118).

No sure how to adjust the bulb higher tho...

I am almost finished completing an entire OEM LED/Bi-xenon headlight swap on GLAowners forum. I started the thread here: http://www.glaowners.com/forum/merce...w-project.html

I will be updating with pictures and necessary info soon. Just have one more issue to sort out, but so far, it has not been as bad as many might anticipate.
