I recently picked up a nicely equipped 2015 GLA45 AMG to replace my C300 4matic as my winter vehicle. currently my mother is borrowing it for the "break in" period since she has more restraint than I do but I am excited to drive the car!. I think it provides a good balance of clearance and control for winter driving while not being too high off the ground and till giving AMG grade performance, with a bonus of room in the back for objects and occasional passengers.
since I went with a 2015 we got a good discount nearly 10k below msrp. black on black 19'' with performance seats and exhaust, interior package, premium/multimedia packages, sunroof. feels very premium, I was skeptical due to the complaints when the CLA first arrived in 2014 but I am impressed, it feels up to par with my C63 save for minor details.
the gla amg forum does not seem very lively but I am hoping people have information about good directions to go with mods for this car? the M133 seems to be an impressive engine but it is still new. it seems both renntech and weistec have packages available already though. I may also consider taking the car to the custom tuner who did my C63 dyno tune and see what they can do. they primarily tune STIs so hopefully this car is enough to interest them haha!
will update thread with pics when I get a chance, here is one from the dealership
Yes, the forums are rather sleepy, aren't they? I just got a 2015 at a massive discount, too, and just got through the painful break-in. There are several tuning options and you'll be lucky to find a lone post about each. Disappointing.
If you surf the CLA45 and A45 fourms they are usually more active.
Since the cars are very similar much of the information crosses over.
Very nice -
Looking forward to the pictures

the car is in my hands now, I will try and snap some pictures over the course of the week time and weather permitting! those weistec parts look mighty compelling, although I have to stay, having a 50k mile warranty on a car pushing 26psi of boost sounds like a nice thing to have

still need to toil through this break in period, but a few round trips on I-95 should get the job done. I also am still trying to find an optimal seating position. in the C63 coupe I like sitting low and back, but this car feels a bit awkward when i try and emulate that. i have to say the interior feels much more roomy than it did on my test drive at the dealership, which is welcome

Having driven the car for nearly 1k miles now I feel I can comment a bit on the car. It is definitely a different beast to drive than my C63. It is my first time in a long time driving a 4cyl turbo, and definitely the first one putting out this much power
The power delivery feels very different from the c63, as it doesn't not feel as linearly connected to the position of the gas pedal. The gearbox is very good though, the shifts are very smooth and quick, they seem quicker than my c63 but I will have to wait until I can bring both cars out to compare. Overall I am happy with how peppy the engine is though, and we will see how long my patients last before I start inquiring about a dyno tune. One thing to note: the car came equipped with ContiSportContact tires, which are ultra performance summer tires. I definitely found the limit of these tires this past weekend in the snow storm we got! but despite that the car held its own as I crawled down I-95 just as the snow was beginning. If i had run into an incident that required quick maneuvering I think I would be telling a different story however. A set of snows will need to be added to the list without a doubt.
As for the rest of the car, I am very happy with the AMG performance seats. It makes me wish the bolsters in my C63 were adjustable, as I am slender enough to tighten them up a bit. The exhaust note is something i'm still getting used to as it has quite more of a "buzz" to it than the C63, but it definitely has the signature AMG burbles and barks. If anyone has any other questions I might be able to answer please don't hesitate!
But then I drive my c63 and think, are you crazy!
These look like amazingly fun lil cars though , I'd bet it would be a blast to track

As for MPG, I actually find that I average around 18-20mpg in both cars. With the turbo engine I cant be as light on the throttle moving around town as I am with the C63 it seems. Perhaps with time I will start to see the difference.
