GLB ride quality

Hi everyone!

First time MB owner. Got my 2021 GLB 250 this week after waiting for almost a month (low inventory of cars worldwide because of microchip shortages).
When I was first looking my next SUV, I test drove the X3 and Q3 as well. I eventually chose the GLB250 because of the ride quality. It was very smooth compared to BMW and Audi.

Now that I got my ordered vehicle I noticed that the ride quality isnt as smooth as the GLB demo that they had. The only difference I can think of that should make a difference is that the demo vehicle has 18" wheels vs the 19" wheels that I have. Personally, I think the 19" rims on my SUV looks way better than the 18" rims. Does a different wheel size make a difference in smoothness of the ride?

Does it also have something to do with the vehicle still being new (less than 100 km driven). The demo vehicle had more than 1500km. After I break it in will the ride get smoother?

Yup, size of the wheels does matter. Another thing to keep in mind is run-flat vs conventional tires, although I believe the demo you test driven still had run-flats as well so no change there. Run-flat ride will be more harsh.
As for tire pressure, check manually try not to rely on technology and I don't think your car has Active TPMS, I believe it only has passive so you wouldn't be able to see the tire pressure in real time.
Check the tire pressure and adjust to the tire pressure shown on the fuel door.

Yes wheel size makes a noticeable difference to ride quality.

No more MB:(
Wheel size makes the difference for sure. People love the sportier looks but there is a give.

Don't assume that. The numbers are right in the cluster. What are they?

I have 19” continental run flats. My tire pressure is 33 all around. My ride quality is fantastic! I also use the Mercedes me app to check this and everything thing else daily. Hope this helps.

Ride Harsh

I just pick my GLB250 w/19 rim , tire pressure was 33psi.(very nice ride). I check the label on the Drive Side, its said FnR cold 43psi.? Wow, I put 40psi, the ride little harsh already. I could not imagine running 43psi. I will drop it down to 38 or 39 psi., looking for better mileage and comfort.

Mercedes doesn't know what they are doing with tire pressure, and more broadly they don't know what they are doing with design and manufacture of their products. The conflicting tire pressure information is one example of many.

I set my tires to the max pressure listed on the sidewall for fuel economy and treadwear reasons. Almost no one agrees with me on this, that's OK.

Ride quality is related to how many inches of tire sidewall you have. Tire pressure has a far lower effect on ride quality than sidewall height has.

Today I drop the front to 39psi, more smoother (even my wife notice). I didn't lower the R still at 40psi (fell little harsh), will try 39psi.

what were the tire pressures when you received the car from the dealership? Did you start at 33? or did you start at something higher then just went down to 33?

The tire pressure label may be different for the FWD models and the 4-Matics because of different weight distribution. We have the GLB250 FWD with Continental run flat tires and use 38 psi in all 4 tires. Our typical load is 4-5 passengers with school bags. That gives a ride quality noticeably better than our C250.

How are you driving with 33psi tires and not getting warning message from the car?

The tag on the fuel fill door states 38psi for front. It got cold last night and my tire pressure dropped to 35psi, I got warning message on my front screen when I was driving that tire pressure was low on all 4 wheels. Had to pump to 38psi for warning to go away from the car and the Me app.

The GLB is not here to check, but I think the TPMS reset function has a “Use Current Pressure” option. All my other MBs have had that. That would allow the dealer to set 33 psi as the monitored value.

Just curious why would dealer set a different tire pressure than that of manufacturer?

My dealer delivered mine with 43 psi (max load) all around but it’s set at 38 psi and warns at 34 psi.

TPMS reset is available to the driver and is described in the “Onboard Computer” and “Tire Change” sections of the owner’s manual.

Thank you for the information. I was able to find it on the service menu.

Hi everyone!
An update on my vehicle. I decided to bring it back to the dealer to get it checked as I hear a grinding noise from my front tires when I turn the steering wheel all the way to the left when making 3-point-turns. Turns out the wheel alignment of the front L and rear R tires is bad. They corrected it of course. Now, my GLB rides smoothly, as smooth as the demo car that I test-drove.

Honestly, it's hard to believe that MB would sell a vehicle with wheel alignments that are bad.

The alignment would have to be very bad for it to affect ride quality like that. Glad you got it solved.

BTW-one of my nearby MB dealers has a plate in the floor of the car wash that does some sort of rudimentary alignment check every time a car goes through. I wonder if something like that would have caught the problem.
