Augmented reality/innovation package
Hi all,
I picked up my GLB 250 this afternoon and can’t figure out how to activate the augmented reality feature. The packages we got are innovation, amg line, vision. The handover specialist wasn’t sure how to do it but said it should come up when we enter a destination through the navigation which we have tried a few times. The navigation panel splits in two with the left one being a variation of the map in the right screen. I can’t find anywhere in the settings about augmented reality?? We have heads up display but can’t figure the AR out. Not sure what I’m doing wrong!

If it’s relevant, this wasn’t pre ordered but purchased after it was en route to Australia. Mine activates with the GPS when you enter the destination. It looks like there is a square to in the lower right with the letters "AR" to activate/deactivate it:

Open the navigation settings, Advanced, and you should see an Augmented Reality menu.
If you don't, then you probably don't actually have the option. This option has been cut out of basically every model now due to chip shortages, so if this vehicle was made recently, that would explain the omission.

Yep, we definitely don’t have it then. I’ve been through those menus and it’s not there. The AR toggle thing on the screen isn’t there either.
I’m so annoyed. More that we weren’t told about it more than anything as it was a big part of the decision process.

Normally it should be stated in the sale invoice whether it has or not. I saw in the sale listings that MB is giving credit in US for the missing AR chips now. I got mine last summer from the lot with AR chip...
Yep, we definitely don’t have it then. I’ve been through those menus and it’s not there. The AR toggle thing on the screen isn’t there either.

i do see that other MB vehicles have “retrofitted for augmented reality” listed on them. So unless your vehicle options include any of those then I don’t think you have it.
enjoy your new GLB! I’ve had mine since October and loving it so far.

So you have to also click on this box on the NAV screen to 'also' make sure that turn view on the camera appears.?

The AR box shows when the destination entered on the GPS and the street turn/intersection is within 800ft. In straight road I don't see the AR box/screen, only GPS. I use the console rather than the touch screen. One click switches between GPS only mode vs GPS+AR street turn. I'll see if I can run AR full time as some of the videos show. Maybe it is not available in US or with GLB 35.
Also I chose the traffic light option which comes at traffic lights with /without the destination in GPS. I think it even shows with music on the screen.
Just to confirm, There is a square in the lower right corner of the NAV screen when you have the GPS active and destination entered? I have the AR box clicked on Advanced, but the street with the turn view doesn't appear. So you have to also click on this box on the NAV screen to 'also' make sure that turn view on the camera appears.?

Nothing in settings
tganjs for getting to me, when I go into settings- augmented reality- there is a switch for street names but no switch for house numbers as shown in Bclass instruction book

I think you can check with your local MB dealership. I see that the AR app changes with different cars and countries.

Mine was delivered without the AR package after it was ordered. I'm honestly stunned. No warning from the dealer before delivering the car. After I pointed out the feature was missing they blamed the chip shortage and indicated the feature would be installed in my car "at some point in the future".
I waited 11 months for the GLB to be delivered. I have initiated the process of returning the car. Not happy at all with Mercedes.

just had my Glb Premium delivered and no AR. Dealer tells me they stopped including from beginning of the year!!! Funny as when I test drove in August it was on board a brand new demonstrator and I am sure it was in brochure (June print I think).

Yep same thing happened to us! Honestly, it’s really poor form considering the amount you pay for these cars to have them turn up without the feature you pay for and no discussion. What did they think would happen? I would expect at least a discussion prior to purchase. They would absolutely know. Why on earth did they not say anything in all these cases?
mine can be retrofitted apparently but who knows when that will be. And it’s not really the point. Just dampens what should be an exciting moment - getting a new car.

AR was available in US vehicles at the dealerships when I bought mine in mid-July, but then the production date of my car is April... Now it is omitted from most of MB... I see that BMW dropped the touch screen due to chip shortage also...
AR is very nice on screen, but it makes the GPS very small when it is on. I shut it down 2 weeks ago as I was trying to go to alternative routes based on traffic and GPS was trying to put me to the highway. I was looking at options at the traffic lights and AR comes at every intersection/light....
Also the MBUX screen is excellent with current tech, but I prefer the GLK 350's higher GPS screen location nearly above the dashboard esp when I am driving and checking the GPS. GPS/AR could be better with heads-up-display application... Some of the new vehicles with bigger screens have the option to rotate the screen also...

In all honesty, apart from the annoyance of having paid for it and not having it I wouldnt lose too much sweat over the "feature"....we have it on our GLB and all it seems to do is show you a camera view of the road ahead as you approach a junction - from quite a way back - with the turn indications "under-laid" as a very small blue arrow....we find it NOT as clear as having it de-activated where you see the map display only like all other sat-nav displays.......why do we need a display of exactly what we can se out the windscreen?
when "not navigating" the display pops up when we get to a set of traffic lights....again what is the point when we can see them through the screen

One way to find out is decode your vin number. In order to have AR your MBUX should be a High Control Module code 549. If it is 548 (Mid) you are out of luck.

Thanks for replying. None of the paperwork mentions anything about the missing chip. They did tell me that it is missing a chip related to "Mercedes ME" and the mobile app function and gave me 300CAD credit but more than that nothing.
I will try the VIN decode.

Both say VIN not found. I did find another site https://www.vincheckup.com/ but it hardly generated any useful info related to build or spec sheet. I will keep chipping at it, thanks for helping.
