Anyone added the Nav through the Mercedes Me account?

I see I can add the nav through the Mercedes Me account for $550. Carplay integration is lacking, my Sonata N line had better tech in a lot of ways, so hoping the nav that can be bought is the same as the original option on builds, meaning the augmented reality, etc., but would like to hear from someone that added it before I drop the money on it?

One member on this forum purchased it. Refert to "MB USA Store Website" thread. However it will not come with Augmented Navigation since your car does not have a camera and High controller for it. I considered purchasing it, however after driving a loaner with factory navigation but without AR, I changed my mind. It looks outdated compared to Waze and Google Maps. If AR was part of it, it would be a good option, but since it's not ..... My only complaint with Google Maps and Waze, is that it does not take up the entire screen, however you can still get turn by turn directions with Google Maps on your driver screen, if you select it on the Home Menu.

I'm going to try it to "update" my nav. My maps need to be updated. I'll let you know how it works.

I have a 2020 GLB and on July 5, 2022 I saw they finally had the navigation for purchase on the Mercedes Me app. I made the purchase and it has now become the biggest headache. After speaking with over "six Mercedes me support help" it has been elevated to senior tech support. The long and Short story is that I was told to do a manual map update but the online map update doesn't work on the website for my Mercedes me account. Then was told to go to the dealership and they would update with the reflashed firmware for the whole MBUX and it still doesn't work on the car. The icon is there but it says "please insert a medium with map contents to activate navigation." so according to the dealership, it is a problem on the Mercedes connect side.
If anyone is able to download the Map manual please send me a message.
Thanks

Yes, I purchased the NAV update from the online store. Trick is to dish out some extra $$ to purchase the Wi-Fi hotspot for a month so you can download the entire update, took probably 4-5 hours with purchase Wi-Fi hotspot. Hope this helps!

Solution is carplay:

https://mbworld.org/forums/glc-class...avigation.html

After 2 years, my livetraffic stopped working after 2 years car service. The car came with 3 years free map updates/livetraffic service/ augmented GPS service. After 2 weeks in the dealer shop, the dealer said I need paid internet for livetraffic to work. When I talked with MB me, they told me to accept the MB services that they can track me, etc for livetraffic to work and I don't need internet. Still it doesn't work. I asked if the dealer technician has training about the computers that MB is putting into the cars and she said she doesn't know but she said they are not very good on fixing MB me services as they are mechanics. I bought the linked wireless carplay for $50 thru ebay and I don't have the deal with MB services anymore...

We have always used CarPlay on any car brand we have to connect to navigation services since it became available maybe 10 years ago. It gives access to both Maps & Google maps and now has a 3D feature. It’s always up to date and doesn’t cost anything extra.

As an aside, we do have the in car WiFi internet link through Deutsch Telecom (T-Mobile’s parent company). For $280/yr it gives the kids access to everything they have at home. It is much faster than a 5G phone WiFi hotspot, has band width to accommodate streaming and gaming, and has unlimited data.

Quick Question..

If using CarPlay, can we have the NAV on the instrument cluster? Or is it only available on the screen to the right of the instrument cluster? I can't find a way to show on the instrument cluster. I know with the MB NAV you can have it show on tie instrument cluster no problem either on the different sections or on the entire screen.

As far as I know, navigation in CarPlay only displays on screen to the right of the instrument cluster (US). But TBH, I haven’t tried to display it on the instrument side.

Driver screen will not display map for Carplay but will display directions. Only MB native Navigation can display map on driver screen.

How you can display the directions of carplay navigation on the driver screen? Using which gadget/setting?

On the driver screen, Middle Section select Navigation through Home button.

I tried that but got a Navigation Not Available Message and nothing shows up as far as directions while CarPlay is on an active route on the right screen.

I know I have done it before with Android Auto, and Carplay should work similar. I will check and take a picture when I get home.
Just make sure you are selecting this option in the middle cluster of the driver screen. You can customize 3 areas of the driver screen. You can pull up Navigation map on the right side (in the circle), however it does not display anything useful without MB Navigation subscription. The middle section of the screen, is what worked for me. I know it's a bit confusing and maybe hard to explain.
I am not using that function myself, as it is more annoying then helpful, to me anyway.

I change the middle section to navigation with Android Auto. It gives you "Navigation not Available" message until you enter destination and start navigation. Here some pictures.

Thanks for the pics.. Weird on mine that is not happening... it is always saying Navigation Unavailable even when having a route active on Carplay. It doesn't have to do with the theme selected? And yes I'm just selecting Navigation on the middle section. Is not a killer feature but I wanted to see how it looks and if it was worth it. I'm considering buying the MB Navigation.. but wondering if sticking with Carplay is a better solution.

All you see is arrows and distance to change of direction.

Here’s an FYI:
My daughter has MB NAV and displays it in the center of the instrument display. She prefers that because the right screen is occupied with entertainment features, phone lists, etc. My personal preference is to leave navigation, either CarPlay or MB NAV, on the right screen because it’s larger. I’m going many more places that I’m not familiar with, while she usually has just 2 work locations to go to.
If you stick with CarPlay for now, you can always install MB NAV later. Hope that helps you decide.
