Remote start key fob
Hi everyone,
First time '23 GLB 250 owner. I miss using my key fob when I had my '21 GMC Terrain to remote start my car. The MB app to remote start my vehicle is very limited. I'd like to know if there is away to override the app and purchase a key fob with the remote start button.
Hopefully I can by pass all the limitations the app has any place and actually get it to warm up the vehicle in the cold NY winter. Currently using the app to remote start the vehicle doesn't heat up the engine or interior cabin. The heated seat and heat dont seem to get activated even though I keep the heat on after the last time I drove my vehicle. My Terrain used to turn on the heat and heated seats when I remote started the vehicle.
Thanks in advance!
Shawn

Hi Shawn,
We will likely have an aftermarket remote starter solution for this vehicle in the not-so-distant future, which would allow you to remote start it with your vehicle key.
Check in with us in Q1 of 2024 and we'll know a lot better of when we'll have this available for you!

An after-market remote start option would be fantastic! I'm pretty annoyed that it is now a monthly/annual pay feature. While the GLB is not really a "luxury" model, Mercedes is a luxury car company in the U.S. It feels pretty low-end to have things parsed out this way. I'd have been fine with paying for the feature up front, but knowing the car is capable and they are just blocking it is super annoying. My last Mercedes was not a luxury model either. It was a utilitarian GL-450. I know that they stopped making them after 2012, but I bought mine used in 2017 and the remote start was spectacular and as far as I know only worked from the app.
Anyway, if anyone has heard of a reputable manufacturer making this item, I'd love to hear about it.

Vlad, I thought the '23 GLB 250 provides the remote start app and all its other features free of charge for the first 3 years. Is that not the case?

It used to be 3 year free subscription, but at some point it changed to 1 year. You can go to your Mercedes Me website and it would tell you when your subscription will expire. Most of my services expired in December after 3 years, however some of the services are still on until some time next year. Once it expired there is no longer option to buy monthly subscription of $15 per months and the only option is $150 per year, which is unreasonable in my opinion for services that you use once in a while.

I can confirm that MB is apparently no longer allowing the per month subscription -- ran into this when I was extending my lease and didn't want to pay a full year for a car I was turning-in within a few months. You have to pay the annual Digital Extras package if you want it now.
