GLC 300 2.0 Engine

I've been looking at the Audi Q5 but these new GLC 300's look really nice and the Audi is due for a refresh.

What I've been able to dig up on the specs is the following:

Model--------HP--------Torque------0-60----Weight (lbs)
=========================================
GLC300---241@5500---273@1300---7.0-------3875
Q5 2.0----220@4450---258@1500---7.0-------4079
Q5 3.0----272@4780---295@2150---6.0-------4365
SQ5 3.0---354@6000---646@4000---5.1-------4409

It looks like the GLC300 engine is likely to be more like that of the Audi 2.0T which I find to be a bit lacking though specs indicate that it has more power. Those familiar with the MB engine have any thoughts as if it may feel a bit under powered?

same engine as the C300. Amazing engine! if you havent had the chance, drive a C300.

just think. the C300 is almost 200 lbs lighter than the previous year, im sure the GLC will be as well so the 302hp will no longer be needed and youll get the MPG to go along with it.

no need for diesel imo. 9 gtronic with turbo engines will be economical and powerful enough

Just got our today. The engine in the GLC is wonderful. Smooth with the 9 speed transmission and has more than enough get up and go. On these engines the torque if available at 1300 RPM which makes this engine remarkably potent for its displacement.

I agree. I was terrified coming from an e350 but this engine tuned for the glc is a work of art. Revs so freely and smoothly. And actually and very surprisingly has a nice low sort of guttural sound to it when pressed. Does not sound mechanical at all as some turbo 4s do. Plenty of power, punch and zip. It's all in the torque. Which is abundant.

I'm sure I've mentioned this either here or in another thread, but we also came from an E350 engine. This GLC Turbo 4 is simply amazing when you consider it's not a 6 cylinder. The power is smooth and abundant.

So I drove one this weekend. Overall I liked it. The engine is OK, felt laggy on initial accelerator push...I guess until the turbo kicked in. I drove the new Acura RDX right before and that engine felt much better to me. Not that the GLC engine is bad, just felt like there was a lot of hesitation at starts or if slowing then accelerating which may be more a product of the tranny and not the engine. It happened in all driving modes. To be fair, this also happens in my X6 but much less so in sport mode.

At this point I'm torn between 3 cars (I do this more for me than others, it helps to write it out):
GLC300:
- worst engine out of the three (not that it's bad per se)
- I hate that you can't get a tow hitch with 360 surround view (love, love, love the 360 view in my X6). Once you have it, it's hard to do without
- I hate that I can't have a heated steering wheel without having black interior (so tired of black)
- Not crazy about the dial/touch pad interface combo
- Love the interior, just beautiful
- Rides great, great exterior styling
- Love the seat controls being on the door
- The brakes felt mushy to me (my wife said the same)

Acura RDX:
- Solid engine
- Completely loaded it's ~$15k less than other two loaded with options. I could buy this and a second motorcycle for the price of the others!
- Drive very nice
- Interior not as plush as GLC, especially the seats...no thigh support
- Infotainment system a little overly complex for what it needs to be
- Doesn't carry the same prestige as the MB (IMO). Feels like a Honda
- Exterior styling is ho-hum
- Audio system is mediocre compares to options from other 2
- No power steering column available
- No 360 surround camera option
- I was surprised how nice this car is for the price

Audi SQ5:
- This things is a rocket for an SUV
- Worst gas mileage out of the 3
- Interior is dated, reminds me of a BMW interior which I am sick to death of
- Love the exterior looks
- Not as plush interior as the GLC, about on par with the RDX
- Comes with summer performance tires which I'd need to change (or buy an extra set of wheels) as I live in an area with actual seasons.
- Costs every bit as much as the GLC
- No 360 surround camera option

All choices are good. I don't think anyone here can tell you which is the right one for you. Trust your gut and get the one you think you will enjoy driving the most.

I think the engine is pretty terrific and btw., you can turn off the touch-pad if you don't want to use it. Every function on the car can be performed via the comand round dial, or by accessing the function you want via standard buttons on the dash.

Yeah, wasn't really expecting help but it was cathartic to write it out though, as you point out, someone may point out things I hadn't thought/known about.

Funny, i only find hesitation in comfort mode - probably built in on purpose for smoother launch. In sport and s+ it's very immediate. full torque at 1300 rpm.

BTW - the Audi Q5 will be brand new - total redesign - for early to mid 2016. So maybe wait six months then compare.

My wife had an RDX prior to getting her ML350 and we liked it a lot. You certainly get a lot for your money. However, it just doesn't have that MB feel to it.

Got our GLC300 today... Engine is terrific, 4 cylinder may look bad on paper, but not the case when you actually drive the car.. more than enough power than we actually need.
and GLC450 AMG will be offered next year, for those who really needs the extra power.

I did an extended test drive today and I agree, it's not lacking in power. It's geared very well and even in comfort mode it feels plenty powerful. You can definitely tell the difference in eco mode though.

One of the european review who drove both GLC gas and diesel mentioning the gas version is more sporty, while the diesel version is adequate.

I test drove a 2016 Acura RDX (w/ Tech Package) earlier this year and I have to agree with most of your assessment. While I loved the drivetrain and felt that the audio system was the best of the 3 cars I tested (Lexus NX w/ "Premium" audio and Porsche Macan w/ Bose being the other two), the interior is what killed it for me. It's really boring and cheap looking and Acura doesn't offer any way to upgrade the interior. (They do offer wood trim which is actually - no joke - an applique with wood grain printed on it that you apply to various interior bits.) They also limit what interior / exterior color combinations you can purchase. As a result of my test drive, I no longer considered the RDX to be a luxury vehicle, just a premium Honda. (The pricing seems to reflect that.)

Since that day, I've been waiting to test drive a GLC. Here's hoping it doesn't disappoint. (I would love to test drive the Audi SQ5, but there are none to be found in my area.)

Been driving mine for two weeks and find the engine/transmission to be more than adequate. At idle, so smooth and quiet you have to check the tach to be sure it's running. Recently, one auto journalist described the engine as having an "agricultural" sound (?) to it. Can't agree at all with that.

My only gripe: The ECO button is not in easy view forward as it used to be in my C300. Consequently, since the engine shut down annoys me, I'll forget to hit the ECO button because the button light is only noticeable when looking down between the seats.

Go to Settings and create a custom Agility Select Setting. When I get in my car, I use the agility select switch to get to I (for Individual), which has mine set to Eco Off, Sport Steering and Comfort for the Engine. This way when you set it to your I setting, Eco start and stop is bypassed.
