Saw my ship
Found out Saturday from my dealer in California that my GLC43 is aboard the Amethyst Ace. I happen to be in the U.K. visiting family and saw a ship from a train that I was on. I strongly suspect this is the ship that has my GLC43 aboard. This was the only ship that I saw while the train briefly ran along the coast.
Car carrier taken from a train in Teignmouth, UK. I strongly suspect this is the Amethyst Ace that has my GLC43 on board on its way to Los Angeles via Baltimore.
i took the photo Saturday at 1:30pm off the south Devon coast. The photo below shows the ship was likely there at that time.
Here is the recorded track of the Amethyst Ace. It passed by Teignmouth at around the right time.
Here's a stock photo of the Amethyst Ace

so my glc showed up at the port of los angeles (long beach, really) on jan 27th and has been in vpc for a few days. dealer called on friday saying that it could be ready in a couple days. he called 2 days ago and said it's still stuck in vpc. it's now been a week. last time i had a car ordered, it took 2 days from the ship docking and the dealer delivering.
given all this, would any of you have any suspicion that the car may have been damaged in transit, and that they needed this time to get it fixed up? it's not entirely outside of the realms of possibilities. i guess the real question is, is there any other reason for a car to get held up in vpc? fwiw, the boat was delayed some on its way over but that still doesn't tell me why it's been furthered delayed in vpc. any help from folks in the know would be greatly appreciated!

My GLC43 is due on Feb 27th in the same place.
Previously I had a BMW 328i conv delivered to Port Hueneme (near Long Beach). It was delayed nearly 3 weeks after port delivery due to damage on the ship back in 2013 - cars are tied down inches apart and must be restored to pristine condition for delivery.
Watch this video - cars are parked just inches apart (there are also a few horror story videos about car damage on RORO ships on YouTube you might want to avoid):

port hueneme is actually up in oxnard, and the stop after long beach for certain roro routes. i've seen that video before, and other ones where the roro hits high seas. some cars get damaged beyond repair. a week's delay at vpc seems long, but is damage to the car the only explanation for such a delay?

My GLC300 order
Mine is on order, but won't be built until early April; seems there are some parts supply issues.
Here's my build:
GLC300W (RWD)
Paint: Brilliant Blue Metallic
318: Leather Seating Package
401: Heated and Ventilated Front Seats
P03: Premium 3 Package
996: Advanced Parking Assistance Package
313: Manual Rear Seat Window Sun Shade
463: Head-Up Display
810: Burmester® Surround Sound System
846: Brushed Aluminum Running Boards
I would have been happy with the MB-Tex seats, but the wife really wanted the ventilated seats and that can only be ordered with the leather.
I love the HUD on my BMW, so much so that I can't stand driving a car without it, so I had to order it on this.
I don't really care about the parking assistant, but wanted the surround cameras in the package; it's worth the price to me just for that.
3 prior BMWs, this is my first MB.

Saw the ship carrying my car again - I happen to be in Baltimore 10 minutes walk from Fort McHenry today on business - which is right across from where the Amethyst Ace is docked today. Couldn't resist getting a photo during my lunch break.
Anyone else got a car on this ship?

350e
Just got a go from my dealer on two GLC 350e (2 litre petrol hybrid)
Both me and my father are getting the exact same vehicle , except he is getting the panoramic roof. (Will have a skibox on mine 6 months a year)
Build is pretty decent with all options except:
-Memory seats
-Heated rearseats
-Keyless Go (but with keyless start and electric hatch)
AMG inside/exterior
Selenite Grey on 20" Multispoke (Night package with black rims)
Looking for 20" AMG replica wheels. Like the ones on the 43. And also the diamond grille. Weird that you can't get it from the factory. No I dont try to replicate the 43, I just think it looks much better!
Delivery in september!
Cheers from Norway

The Figaro is the green ship immediately to the left of the Amethyst Ace. Both ships have just gone around the southeastern tip of Cuba ahead of going through the straits of Panama.

My GLC43 arrive in Baltimore VPC on 2/8/17 and it's still there. My SA said
Nah dont think too much!! It can be a few days or a week, you never know.
I've had cars held up over a missing tow hook cover, or owners manual!
They do a fair amount of rechecking and install any US Only items such
as first aid kit, floor mats and navi downloads.

What's the delivery interval from completion of manufacturing in Germany to arrival on West coast (assuming Long Beach, CA)?
I have a manufacture date of 2nd decade March. Our US build C450 went through manufacturing process in <1wk but took nearly 6 weeks to ship by rail across the country and then by truck to dealer.

the car i ordered has been at vpc in long bach, ca (port of LA) since the end of january. it's allegedly gonna be released soon. i asked my SA what the deal was, and that i know cars get damaged in transit and then fixed at vpc. he said that they were being held up for some part that's being shipped from germany.

- built first decade of january
- released to ship jan 19th
- asssigned to a ship jan 24th
- loaded on ship jan 27th
- scheduled to arrive Los Angeles feb 27th
- then it's meant to be 2 weeks
i had the same experience with a BMW being held up in the Vehicle Preparation Center for 3 weeks due to damage aboard the ship. They park the cars very close together on the boat.

I'm not picking up the car yet, probably before the end of the month. Waiting for the dealership to give me some incentive to pick up the car before 3/8/17, this is when my X5 lease ends.
I went to look at the car on Monday. It was very hard to take pictures since the sun was giving me problems.

I'm waiting for my Coupe to finally arrive in the US. Supposed to be in Baltimore Feb 25th, I'm hoping it will get to White Plains, NY, as quick as yours got to Roslyn.

2016 GLC 250d AMG pack, 2017 GLC Coupe 250d AMG pack , 2002 BMW 330Ci convertible, 2021 BMX X1 sD20i
Our second GLC, this time a Coupe, 250d arrives tomorrow. Very happy wife. Few more extras than mine and we deleted the side steps.
Car is then going straight to paint technician for treating and sealing. He has done our other cars including our BMW 330ci convertable, as well as its removable hard top.
Will post some comparison data re ride and suspension as we ordered air, not steel springs, and it runs on normal tyres and not runflats.

Guess I got fairly lucky. I completed my order mid-late-ish January for a build date of Feb 9. It's been built and is now headed to Baltimore scheduled to arrive March 2 on the Horizon Highway. I think my dealer had a build slot already for that date, bumped that build and inserted mine. I'm guessing I'll take delivery mid-march. I'm having him send me the full option sheet to keep an eye on the acoustic glass issue.
Build:
GLC43
Selenite Grey
P03
Designo black leather (diamond stitch)
Heated/Vented front seats
Pano
Night package
Burmester
Advanced Parking assist
Rear door blinds

Great news. My SA says my build date is 3/2 and the car will be at the dealership in MD by 3/31! I have been waiting for the build slot since the end of December.
